Likely issue is your own account then ...... one of the Santander group?

....... only if it's called BACS?

Nope, money can still be sent as a FP and take 3 working days.

I was going to post a similar link to the FP schematic from the Chapsco site ....... with the invite to suggest where an extra couple of days could be hidden? But decided I couldn't be bothered. As there is always an out with something like this :-

at any stage either the sending or receiving bank may carry out additional checks on transactions, which could delay a small number of payments.

But it's a miniscule number that are stopped 'en process' and doesn't justify in any way the sweeping statement made at post #2. And elaborated, in the minds of some by the signature.

Some previously useful posts by the person concerned ....... just not the ones in this thread.

FPs do not take 3 working days - they take seconds for Single immediate payments. Standing orders go in batches over night. Only 3 working days if via BACS

Were both accounts HBOS? If not who do you bank with?
Also how much is the payments as there are still caps in place of varying degrees.

Edit - Sorry you said £140.

There have been issues I think.

I moved £1000 from FD to Halifax (BOS) yesterday morning (1am). It wouldn't let me move it back out but eventually managed to move £500 then £250, it wouldn't let me do the rest. Just logged back in and it has let me transfer the final £250.

When it wouldn't let me move it back out, it said it couldn't process the FP, just BACS.

It all depends on how both the sending and receiving banks handle faster payments. As far as I can tell, each bank has it's own rules and procedures, which include:

    1. the time of day the payment is sent. Some banks appear to be able to deal with them outside of normal working or banking hours, other don't.

    2. the time of day the payment is received - see above.

    3. the amount of money you're sending

    4. how fast the banks at both ends of the transaction actually deal with the payment

    For example:
    • If I FP money from HSBC to nationwide, it takes at least couple of hours, even if I do it during the working day. If I do it at the weekend, it won't go in until 9am on the Monday morning.
    • If I FP from my Nationwide to HSBC, it's there almost instantaneously. But not always...
    • When my husband transfers money from the business to our household account (both HSBC), it's always immediate.
I've come to the conclusion that it will get there when it gets there. HSBC appears to have both the fast sending AND the fast receiving parts of the process in place (most of the time).

The problem with FP and Nationwide was why I stopped using NW for my everyday banking in the first place, despite being otherwise very happy with the account.

Apologies to OP for giving you an 'it depends' answer!
