Hi, I don't think it's right that these keys are unreprogrammable. I managed to get one made by a car key specialist at the roadside when my daughter lost our only key on a Sunday outing to the swimming pool. The techy bloke cut a blade that fitted the lock and then used some sort of high tech programming thingy to make it override the immobiliser.

You could check out the Fiat Forums for more info. I bought the key from an independent car key specialists AutoKey Squad that sends out vans but warning: They only have coverage in London and the South East.

Hope you get back on the road as quick as I did!

Let's hope so, this thread was started in 2006.

An Ex-Timpsons employee, I am aware of the services they offer ...

well then you would know if it has a transponder in the key it will not start the car.......
My astra key has the transponder in it and the key timpsons cut for me will not start the car but will unlock the doors, which is all I wanted it for hence why I got it cut there

did you try replacement car keys anyway? When i lost keys to my car 2 years ago i had no idea what to do. If you have VIN number it's very easy and quite cheap to get new keys. Problem starts when you don't have VIN...

Problem starts when you don't have VIN.

If you have a legally owned car, how could you not have the VIN?
This is shown on the registration document and also on a data plate somewhere on the car itself.

I know a bit about Fiat Car Keys as my daughter lost her key during a swimming pool outing. Basically there are loads of locksmiths etc who can come out to your car and get the key rechipped on normal calls like Fiesta's etc. But you need to find one in your area who can cope with Fiats.

If it's just an ordinary key like a Ford you can probably buy a second-hand car key off Ebay and save money by programming it yourself using guidance off the net.

Fiat have a slightly more complex security system though. You will need somebody who can resolder chips on the cars actual ECU. I found that self-programming wasn't really an option on Fiats. You can read about the programming proecudre on any decent Fiat Owners forum.

From my daughters' problem, I can tell you that you are going to need to go to find a decent local car locksmith. I do not recommend using www.yell.co.uk to find this, where I started as it was mainly just normal locksmiths who do car keys a sideline. They weren't really much good for Fiats. there is a list of locksmiths some of whom can help with cars here: http://directory.independent.co.uk/company/aiden-locksmiths-scotland-ltd/7059120 Speaking from personal experience, we had a very clued up bloke called Dan who came out and sorted out our daughter's Fiat (complex) from a Roadside Car Key service called www.autokeysquad.com but WARNING: This company only seems to offer coverage inside the M25. I fear with cars as complex as Fiat the other option you might have to look at seriously is a rip-off dealer.

Go to a proffessional locksmiths, the trade use them and they have the kit to copy a chipped key. Do it before you lose or break the 1 you have.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
