Orange no PAYG coverage abroad - options?
OH and I have been with Orange for years, and don't particularly want to change network. But we will soon be moving abroad for a year or so. We will barely use our UK mobiles there, but would like to keep them so people can contact us on them.
The cheapest contract I can find is £15 pm which is £360 over the year. We can't justify that expense to keep 2 contracts running while we are away. There is mention online of a £5 pm contract, but I can't find it on the orange site and it's for 36 months, which I don't want to be tied to, in case we end up staying out there longer.
So then I thought we could just change to PAYG, but Orange only cover the country (Ecuador) on contract plans, not PAYG.
So plan C is to port our numbers to a Vodaphone PAYG, because they do cover it.
I don't really want to do that though, and would prefer to stay with Orange if possible. Do they have any wiggle room on contract prices? Is there any chance of me getting say £5 a month for 12 months or something along those lines? Or do they have the ability to give my PAYG coverage, even though it's not supposed to be available?
Any other ideas?

When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

If you are near upgrade ask Orange, I know somone who have had £10 credits on a 18 month plan of 18 months while away from home as I called and arranged such for them.
When they returned they just upped the plan to a £30 one - they got a reasonable mobile upgrade aswell on a Nokia 6301, not to shabby a mobile.
Convince them they will make money on roaming, ask for a discount...
