If its not written on the bottom of the router, then you will have to log on to your router to find it.
Connect the laptop to the router with an ethernet cable.
You should now be back on line. Then check this link for your router and once logged on, look for your wireless settings.

Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

That will only work if it's already saved on a pc, which it seems isn't the case.
connect with an ethernet cable, if you don't know the address of the router, type ipconfig from the cmd prompt, and note the gateway address, then put that into the address bar of internet explorer.!!

You mean you want to connect to someone elses network?
If you have an ethernet cable then you could just connect your laptop to the router, log in and change the wireless key yourself without downloading any tools.0 -
Thnx everyone. It was my first ever post and I got replies so thanks a lot!
Can I just explain a bit more fully. I have a desktop with internet. I bought a wireless router (D Link) so my nephew could use his laptop wirelessly at my house to go on the internet. I don't wnat to use the laptop with an ethernet cable as we can't all fit on the desk. I quite like to use it wirelessly in the conservatory! I have no difficulty using the internet on my desktop and am never asked for a network key. However, the laptop cannot connect to the network as it keeps asking for the network key which I remember writing down but have lost and its not on the bottom of the router box. If any of your replies remain the same then let me know and I will try them or now I've given more info I would be grateful of any help to find the key or be told a way to reset the key. Thanks for reading.0 -
All posts so far have given you advise how to get the wireless key.
In short, connect to your router with a network cable and get the key as described above. Once you have the key, you don't need to connect with a cable anymore.

what people are saying for the min you will have to go into you routers systems menu and in there will be the wireless key which you can write down.
what you computer you use is upto you but will have to be hooked up with an ethernet cable to do this on my router in internet explorer i have to type in 192.168.0.1 it then asks me for user name and password in seperate window, most user names and passwords are stickered on the router if not you will have to do a google search for them with your model number etc etc etc0 -
To reiterate:-
If its not written on the bottom of the router, then you will have to log on to your router to find it.
Connect the laptop to the router with an ethernet cable.
You should now be back on line. Then check this link for your router and once logged on, look for your wireless settings.

Or try this:-
Step 1 Type in the default IP address of the router in your browser (default IP is 192.168.1.1)
Step 2 Log in using the default username and password (username: admin, password: admin)
Step 3 Click on Setup at the top of the screen and then click on the Wireless Setup option on the left.
The network key and wireless key are one and the same thing. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
