  • It's not even the slush TYO that worries me - it is when it gets compacted, melts, and then freezes again as pure ice - and hidden underneath fresh snow . A neighbour found me face down on the floor at the end of the street last year trying not to cry after I slipped - there are only so many times a grown woman can get away with that before her pride suffers! :rotfl: Are you up for a shred challenge in the new year?. I think it will be needed at this rate! Just managed 20 minutes of exercise, that is all I can suffer in this freezing house. NO WAY am I going swimming this evening, the thought of going out...can't even entertain it!

Savings are a bit more than usual as OH being away means food spends at minimum and petrol spends non-existent :D.

Everything is coming together toots, although I am feeling pretty wrung out at the minute so not feeling quite as elated as I should. The plastering has all been done, electrician back on Thursday for 2nd fix. Will post up some pictures when done (before and after decorating).

The shoe grips are walker ones by yaktrax, which I bought from lovetobenatural. Not tried them myself yet, but friend at work (a baby carrier) gave them 10 out of 10.

I think the end of year is looming on my mind as well. I came across a blog which had 101 things the writer wanted to do, I did have that in my mind - but then think I will wear myself out! Moneywise, I'm thinking around £18K-£20K :eek::D I will have done this much in savings this year but had some cashback from tax, and we did add dec's paypacket to savings (this year Dec money will all go on carpet :o). Would like to look at other things too but will write another post when more thought out.

Any other readers thinking about 2011 plans?

I had to make another stew this evening - am very comforted by hot stodgy food though! I have never done the shred. When i first heard it mentionned i thought people were using paper shredders! :rotfl:

You do so well with your savings and am sure you'll be able to make huge OP's once home improvements finished - am looking forward to seeing the photos.

Have thought about 2011 targets as have a few others. For us it depends if we move or not. I didn't sign up for the 2010 challenge as I only found this forum in the summer, will there be another one do you think?

Stay safe in the snow - and very wise decision not to go swimming! :)

Not sure if 10K challenge will go again next year, it was useful for me but will need to aim for £20K this year - think you should always be slightly scared by a challenge as it is the fear which keeps me going!

Feeling bleugh - was meant to be going to a leaving do this evening that was really looking forward to, but due to snow ins it has been postponed to a date I can't do :(. I just feel totally whacked and really antisocial, so think I might just go home after work. I have had a bit of an upset stomach, could just be generally run down. OH is being grumpy too due to tiredness, can't help but take it personally so means I'm getting annoyed with him and not feeling refreshed at home.

Not much to report, I had a meeting near a discount shopping outlet store yesterday, so afterwards picked up another couple of presents from joint account (£7 shirt from gap for brother, and £5 book for friend). Also got slow cooker book I really want for £2.99, bought coffees for meeting for £5.50, spent £2 on sandwich and 80p on snack. Today OH hadn't made anything for lunch, just got homemade soup for £1.50 which was yum! So that is another £10 from personal money gone (£130 left).

Have entered some advent comps, and used some more of amazon voucher from work to order batteries for my pedometer. Am planning to use that when snow melted to keep an eye on activity levels over Xmas silly season!

PS on plus side I miscalculated my savings payment - another £50 went in taking it to £1,410 in savings this month :j

  • Hey mw
hope you feel better soon, there is a lot going around at the moment I think its just that time of year!
As you can see Ive been avoiding coming back to your thread since the shred challenge was mentioned!! :rotfl: I must get fit though , so maybe I should...once Ive set a challenge in my mind its hard to go back on it ;) maybe I could start by doing one of the exercise dvds I have rather than buying another one! (very MSE see? :rotfl:)
20K in savings in a year? gosh thats brilliant - how do you manage that?? (note to self go to look at SOA so I can see where Im missing here!)
am also heading towards thinking of next years goals...almost tempted for a new diary for the new yr...

    Hi musey,

sorry it's been so long since I popped in, I've just been catching up on al your deeds & very glad to hear that the nasty neighbour was wrong about the conversion.

Great that it's nearly finished too :D.

All this talk of food makes me hungry so I'm off to old style for stew & casserole recipes

    xx

You sound like a woman at the end of a long year!

So it look like on January 1st we are at the start of a V V BIG challenge. I am definitely going for £25k and I will go on a good holiday, a little holiday (also good with a bit of luck) and buy a kitchen table, a dining room table and a kitchen dresser, and lose seven stone. I slipped that one in quietly as readers will know I have no will power but my weight is now affecting my health, I am so tired and really have not been working that hard.

If I start the new year with a plan to lose a lb a week for two years plus pay off £2000 per month plus interest on the mortgage. It's a double whammy, super charged, long distance challenge. If it is as successful as giving up coffee I'm in trouble.
  • We are all looking forward to the new start i think. Toot - good challenges. PErhaps set smaller ones along the way. I want to pay of £10k if i can including normal payments, so i was thinking of breaking it down into each £1k, or looking at 2 or 3 months at a time. Otherwise it is scary.

Yes that is right my first challenge is to get to where I was before I had the work on my house done, I will nip over to my own thread and sort myself out by working out those figures.

Good luck with all those challenges! I liked MemoryGirl's idea of paying off £100 125 times! That helped me break things down easily. DH's boss always asks him how to swallow an elephant, by taking it one mouthful at a time. Need to learn that one myself, I think!

I'm currently planning on how I can have a money neutral Cmas next year, and what I actually mean by that. I like the idea of knitting lots of gifts for people

WIll start replying now but have to rush off to swimming in a minute so may take a few posts to reply to everyone!

tyo - you cannot escape the shred! Doing dvd's you already have sounds like a :money: plan. I have quite a few different ones too. Shall we do a challenge to exercise 3x week? I think I can manage that, but will be more consistent than this year. £20K is awesome, and a lot more than I thought we could do when we started this year. I've posted my SOA previously, I think the support of OH has been crucial and we have really cut down on everything we buy/do. Think a new diary too might be in order ;)

Lula- Hula - thanks for posting hun, I too don't post on others diaries that much. Am still in  over stew revelation! :rotfl:.

Toots- You're on for a challenge, I will do £20K to your £25k.:D (and chamichelle did you want to join in with your £10k target?). Weight loss sounds sensible, I have lost 1 1/2 stone in 19 months and kept it off, any more than about a pound a week can be hard to sustain. Did you want to join in the exercise 3x week bit too? Having other elements to aim for too (a holiday sounds fab!) is a good idea and I am stlll considering what these should be for me.

Right - time to get to that pool (for a free schwim!), catch up properly later.
