Hello,
I have a very interesting story for 2010, it all started when I went to the bank for an student overdraft of £500 and I ended up paying after a whole year £900 in charges to Lloyds TSB, I family isn't rich and I was giving a full student loan which gave me about £439 a month and I can remember paying a charge of £190 a time for going over drawn. I also had a basic bank account with RBS and I went overdrawn in that account aswell -£30 for just going overdrawn and now my account is £320 overdrawn.
I don't know how the government lets this happen to students I really want to kill the MP's, if I ever see one in the street he'll be getting my mouth to answer to lol.
After reading about getting the charges back on this site I put a claim in. I wrote to the bank blah blah blah, they said it was hold and I wasn't getting it back. So I took to the financial ombudsman and it took months and months to get a decision back from them and all they said that since the bank offered me to reduce my overdraft by £10 a month they have done their job to help me with hardship. That wasn't the answer I wanted to hear, I wanted to hear that they will refund me all of the charges. I'm still paying it back to this day but i totally disagree of paying it but I don't have a choice.
Since I had a reply from the ombudsman I don't know what step i should take now because i really want the money back so i can go on a nice holiday and relex before my 2nd year of university starts. That's all :mad::mad:
Thank you very much for listening to my story, and I can't wait to hear the replies xx

Face it; the bank said no, the FOS said no.
There is no obligation for the banks to refund charges you incurred, and it ain't gonna happen for you.
Your only option would be to risk more money trying to win a claim based on legal grounds. You say you've read the MSE articles which is good as that explains the process and the risks involved.
No one has won yet... will you be the first to do so in court?
Edit: Btw, you won't be getting any nice holiday. In the unlikely event you do manage to get a bank to refund any charges, they will deduct it from the money you currently owe them."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Instead of going on holiday and relaxing, why not try and get a job like the rest of us students and pay the debts off quicker?0

I Have contacted my local sheriff court and i have requested a application for a small claims court case. I have nothing to lose but £65.
Should I give it a try and what grounds can I fight on? I'm not that good on law and it sounds pretty complicated.
Thank you0 -

just reply to lokolo.
I'm trying my best to give me a really good job in the future I don't believe in working for 10 per hour that's slave labour, I'm at university studying Accountancy and I do have a job so please stop judging people.0 -
I believe its only £65 because when I contacted them they said I have to pay a fee of £65 and my claim isn't over £5,000 so I don't think they can ask me to pay their legal expenses, But can they ?0
