Don't. Instead install Virtualbox which is free. Create a virtual PC with it and install Windows XP onto that instead. There's a speed hit but its not that bad and there's no faffing about dualbooting. OK, there's no 3D support worth a damn but unless you want to play Modern Warfare 2 :D it doesn't matter. You can also share folders from OS X very easily and they'll show up as networked folders in the XP virtual PC thus allowing easy access to files etc.

I'll second that. Also means you don't have to try and guess your windows usage when you make the hard drive partition.

I have Parallels 3 installed and have been using it bad am not to happy with it as it is a bt slow when I open a few programs. I have allocated 1300ram (from overall 2000mb).
before i read your comments I had installed Virtual box and will give that a try.

I will get windows 7 installed when we get it at work (I get a free copy!) but or now will stick with XP.

Regarding the 3D graphics so does that mean I cannot play any games like sims 3, world in conflict?

Yeah, you don't want to play games in a VM.

What tools are you using in parallels? Mention them here and you'll maybe find people can point you in the direction of native OSX alternatives.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Virtualbox, since it's free, is an excellent way to install a virtual machine, and find out how often you'll actually want to use one. For a lot of people, me included, it's not as often as you thought. Dual booting is also free though (use Bootcamp inside Utilities folder) and will get the full performance out of the computer.

    Hi Guys

I have had the Mac now for a month but cannot get used to it! Using the parallels desktop does not seem a good option as it sometimes crashes and is slow.
I have decided that I want to sell up and get a windows laptop instead.
Can anyone recommend a latop for around £650 to take into my needs:
    17" screen
good for playing games (nothing too demanding, to play World in Conflict, Sims 3 etc)
good for films/music/ blu ray would be good
Fast, not too fussy about the hard drive capacity as I can upgrade it

Just to recap I currently have a Apple Macbook Pro, 17", Intel Core Duo 2.4ghz, 640gb, 2gb RAM.
How much do you think it is worth considering it is in mint condition with everything that it came with?

    Thanks in advance
