Hi All
A long term PC user I have recently decided to give apple a go.
I know from my previous posts I have not been the greatest supporter for apple. lol
I have a Apple Macbook Pro 17", 2gb, 160gb laptop.
i would like to upgrade the hard drive and saw this offer on scan:
1.5TB Samsung HD154UI for £58.74
However i am not sure if this is compatible to my machine?
the hard drive I have in the laptop is a Intel ST9160823AS (ICH8-M AHCI) 160gb
Can someone please advise (if you need any more info please let me know).
Thanks in advance

You'll get better advice over here than at HUKD.
That's a desktop hard drive, 3.5". You need a 2.5"drive. The biggest one Scan sell is 1TB but it's 160 quid which is over your budget. Laptop drives are much more expensive than desktop drives unfortunately. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

Thanks for the info
Just had a look at Scan & saw this one:
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/500GB-Western-Digital-WD5000BEVT-Scorpio-25-SATA-300-5400-rpm-8MB-Cache-2-ms
Would this be compatible to the mac?0 -
A good choice for a 5400 rpm drive.
I would go for Seagate Momentus 500GB for £66 (or there abouts from other sites). It's a faster drive than the one you've chosen, but it is also more expensive - it's what I have in mine.0 -
Just saw this & am ordering

So impressive I've just ordered one for my Macbook Pro
I had my installed by the IT guys at work & the hard drive works like a charm.
now to upgrade the ram on my Macbook pro. Done a scan on Crucial and this is the offer they have on:
4GB kit (2GBx2), 200-pin SODIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module
CT687611
Module Size: 4GB kit (2GBx2)
Package: 200-pin SODIMM
Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64
2x 2gb for £78.71 inc. VAT plus 9% Quidco.
Saw this on ebay for about £7-8 cheaper but was not 100% sure if this would be okay for my laptop??
Can anyone find anything cheaper or suggest whihc one I should go for??
thanks0 -

Got a link to a 7200rpm drive for the same cost?
Speed isn't as important as space for a lot of people. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
