I would wait for another one too. I travelled home yesterday at 3-3.30ish through our local shopping centre which would usually be crammed at that time of day with school kids, mums on way home, etc. It was completely deserted and the few people I did see were Polish (or at least wearing Polish football gear). Never seen the like!

My town is full of polish people, in fact most of them were at the last boot sale I did, we hardly had any english customers.

I'll speak to my mate later and tell her that the general opinion is to wait. Then I'll leave it up to her, if it all goes wrong it'll be her fault not mine, lol.

Thank you all very much for taking the time to advise me.

  • I was thinking of doing a normal morning one that finished about 1pm, do people think this is a waste of time as well or will people be coming out before that match starts. The boot sale is in a very working class town so I assume a lot will be watching the football.

It'll only cost us £3 each to sell
    ...
[parents] are really excited and can't wait to have [baby] all to themselves.
    ...
I could really do with the money
    ...
have lots of her little baby stuff to get rid of
I've picked out the bits that I think are relevant above.
    I'd say go for it.
You're bound to make at least £3 from the sale. [Remember to take your own drinks / snacks - you don't want to be spending your profits!]
If it's quiet you may want to come home early, which is good if it's your parents' first time with your baby.
Generally women would buy baby stuff. Generally women are less likely to be watching the football.

Don't sell anything "good" for less than you're happy with just because it is quiet. You can always do another one.

My local bootsale (Ormskirk) gets a load of foreign buyers, i'm sometimes surprised to here someone speak good english so if yours is anything like the same then they'll still be there, i'll definitely be doing my regular stall this sunday but luckily mine runs from 6am to lunchtime.

Don't you have any other's in the area that open earlier? There's 5 within 10 miles of my home and all of them finish before 2pm.

Thanks D57 and welcome to the forum. There is one that starts at 6am in a nearby town but that is a bit early to ask parents to get here by. I've donee that one once before but didn't do as well as the later one. Though mist of my friends think that is the better one.

Baby is still only small, and teething at mo, so I don't want to leave her at too awkward a time i.e. breakfast or just woken up. I left her with them a couple of months ago whilst I went on a first aid course for 2hours and she cried for a lot of the time I was gone and they seemed to find it quite difficult. It's 35 years since they have had to worry about crying babies so I did feel for them.

I'm still all for going, as Jimmy the wig said, there are lots of plus's to going and if it's not very busy I can maybe do another one at the end of the summer if babysitting goes well.

Doing really badly on Ebay lately so hopefully this will go better.

    Thanks again all.

I'm doing one on Sunday morning, as I haven;t another Sunday morning free until end of August and I need to clear out! But I guess I'll hopegully be done by the time the match is on in that case.

In that case i would personally give it a go, if you're not into football and it's only a few quid for the pitch then you don't have much to lose. I personally find the carboots very relaxing and i enjoy them. If i stay home i'm up at 7am with 3 fighting kids anyway, if i go to the carboot I get one hour less in bed but I can leave my partner at home with the kids and sit in the middle of a field, relaxing, topping up my tan and making money :D

Just out of interest, we've done quite well with "Buy it now or best offer" on eBay with things like prams. One (that we'd tried to sell at an NCT sale with no joy) went within about half an hour, including discussions about when to pick it up!

So if you've got some good stuff that you don't sell, that might be worth a try.
