...and be able to actually ride it, as not all bikes suit your geometry. RIDE BEFORE YOU BUY (even if it's just ride it locally and then buy online ), although Evans do price match, so even if you can find it cheaper online they'll match it. Best of both worlds!

  • I second buying local. Got a pootling little hybrid, just £200. I rode it before I bought it. After a few weeks they told me to come back so they could tighten gear cables etc (for free) which I did. A month later I had a problem with my chain and the chain cover broke, I took it in and they fixed it for free, cleaned it up and it runs like a dream. Top service. Not sure I'd have got all that from Halfords, but I am prepared to be corrected :-)

A broken chain could be down to poor riding style or exterior influences, so to get that done FOC is good, but ALL bikes get a free check-up 3months after sale to make sure nuts have not worked loose etc...

I got a 2006 Kona Kikapu RRP £1250, bought in April 2007 for £750 delivered to my door, (just line up the handlebars and go)........ From Evan's cycle's online shop...

I could get it slightly cheaper elsewhere, but I wanted someone who knows what they're doing to actually build it rather that some Halfrauds type retard.

Can't grumble at that..... Last years models are always a really good deal.

You must have personal experience/knowledge of the people who work at Halfords, or simply write down the first thing which cmes into your mind.
For your information, there are quite keen cyclists who work for Halfords (no, I do not work for them, or have any interest in promoting them), and they will help you out and solve problems.

    ????

Now im not going to tar all wityh one brush and independant cycle shops can be just as bad...

But my ex brought a bike from Halfrauds, firstly the brake levers were positioned point upwards and the gears were ill adjusted..... Then she took it back 3 times with a loose crank (it fell off after 2 months use).... Now bare in mind she has no car.... After the 3rd time, I cleaned it up myself, applied some thread lock (non-permanent) and a new nut, tightened it with my socket set and it NEVER came loose again.

So f*cking simple a monkey could do it!!

I found Evans very good when I bought my fold up bike. They even agreed to discount the bike by another £85 when I found it cheaper on the net up north, I live in the South :D

i am looking for a good deal on a new cycle and cant seem to get much out of the likes of evans cycles or other quality shops ,am i wasting my time looking for a deal ? i have a budget of appox £1000 cash so i thought there might be something out there ,,,,thanks for any comments

  • hi many thanks for all the comments, ill tell a bit about what i need...been looking at Trek,Cannondale and Felt for the frame i tend to favor cannondale caa9(good history) am i right in saying that an aluminium frame will outlast a carbon ? i used to be a keen cyclist in my younger days riding for a club and also track riding and once managed a cycle shop in London,im pushing 50 now a little overweight and looking to "get fit " again.
i have contacted a local club who say i can come on a casual ride out on a Sunday.
so i was looking for something to fit in with all this and be a means of transport to work which is appox only a 10 mile round journey a day.
i have looked for last years models but theres not much around and talking to the likes of Evans there are no "deals" to be had, even their clarence store at Gatwick does not have much to offer despite their advertising.
oh and thanks marmitedog ill go there and register ..
    thanks again all
    ill be back !!
