£1,000 buys a lot of bike. What are you looking for?

Can you get one through the cycle to work scheme. I hope you can, you will end up with a £1000 bike for about £500, over 12 months.

I am buying a Scott Speedster S30 thro the scheme, rrp £800, and I will end up paying about £410 for it

Without more information this is a near impossible task, but I would try the following:

Ribble Cycles - always have a range of road/hybrid bikes

    Halfords - Chris Boardman range

£1000 is a lot of money, you could buy a bike which would be perfect for racing or touring.
  • Reserve at least £200 of that budget for accessories, including clothing and lights.

I got a 2006 Kona Kikapu RRP £1250, bought in April 2007 for £750 delivered to my door, (just line up the handlebars and go)........ From Evan's cycle's online shop...

I could get it slightly cheaper elsewhere, but I wanted someone who knows what they're doing to actually build it rather that some Halfrauds type retard.

Can't grumble at that..... Last years models are always a really good deal.

Agree with strider, consult your local newsagent and peruse for names of Cycle shops that are doing deals on last years models.
    |There are bargains to be had, I saved over £600 on my Stumpjumper.

Also saved £300 on my Felt that way. Ironically it was an '09 model, sold in '09 but just as the '10 models were coming out, so they were offloading older stock!

Most cycle shops tend to sell bikes at RRP, unless it's last years model as stated above, then there just tends to be limited sizes available. Occasionally you might get say an extra 10% in value's worth of free stuff on top of the price of the bike so it's worth shopping around.

I would stick with a local shop rather than mail order so they can sort out any niggles in the early stages.
