Geting out of an 18 month Orange contract
I have contacted Orange about my girlfriend's contract. In brief, she had an 18 month contract due to expire in August 2010. Orange contacted her to upgrade. I told her to avoid the iphone 3gs as the 4g had been leaked on the net.
Orange contacted my girlfriend in May about upgrading her contract and offered the 3gs. My girlfriend raised the points I made, but was told that the 3gs was only 6 months old and that the 4g would not be available in the UK for about a year. On hearing this she took the 3gs on an 18 month contract as she thought that the 4g would only be around 3 months old when the new contract would be ready to expire.
She was very annoyed when she saw Orange offering the 4g from the end of this month. She only upgraded because she thought the 4g was a long way off.
Is there any way she can get out of her contract? She entered into the new contract on the back of incorrect/false information given by Orange. Had she not been told the 4g was a long way off she would not have entered into the contract.
Can anyone offer thoughts/advice?

You could argue the contract was mis-sold, but as the phone is not tied to the airtime agreement you may find it very difficult.
You would need a recording of the phone call in question.
But it proves, listen to friends not a sales rep.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
getting out of any type of contract like this is next to impossible, but - orange like most other companmies do keep recordings of calls
might be worth while contacting orange, with the date and time to see if they do have that conversation, its a long shot tho...
Good Luck0 -
Bare in mind that until the Apple WWDC event a few weeks back there was no date for the i4, so if she took the 3GS before that any answer would have been speculation. P4U and CPW were also quoting Christmas for the i4 as well...0

No, she's stuck in the contract. Anyone's opinion on the iphone 4 was just speculation until a couple of weeks ago, the fact that your gf chose to listen to the sales rep and not to you is her own fault, not Orange's.
She should have known better to be honest, they call them sales reps for a reason you know.0
