I took Martin's advice and looked for building and contents insurance quotes, filled some details in on line. 10 minutes later I got a call from some sort of broker quoting me £200 p.a. less than I am currently paying with Norwich Union. It is with a co. called Hamiltion Insurance, something to do with HSBC. I asked what the catch was, and the guy said that you get the first 3 months free as they are a new co. and trying to get the business. So that means the price goes up 25% next year but still fairly cheap. Does anyone know anything about this company? I can't quite believe I could save that much money. Cheers.

Its sounds like Paymentshield freefirst scheme- although from 1/2/05 they no longer use Hamilton!! ( suppose hamilton might underwrite others)
Check your adviser is FSA regsitered - and that they issued a IDD
to explain their services/ market
(if its the paymentsghield plan - there is a way of saving a further £20 see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1537Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
