do you get clutter/fragment/wear on an SSD though? :o

I looked at this again last xmas, if my memory serves me well yes they do wear, I mean really wear, I can't remember the article I was reading but I do have a clear memory that the sentence '' you can only write to a flash RAM so many times '' was used.

The article was arguing that the controller hardware has a '' wear levelling '' component which deliberately splatters the writes all over the device rather than a logical write. So if your running Windows on it it will die just a little bit quicker, but if your using it as for a Virtual Memory purpose it will be battered quite quickly.

Can you use it as a Boot Device ?, does Windows see it as fixed or removable ? Windows is very fussy about installing to and allowing a swap file on anything other than a fixed device.

I've just asked my son, who's mate has one and uses it for his O/S drive and every 2 0r 3 months he has to format and reinstall his O/S and if available a firmware update to keep it in reliable condition.

If I have time later I'll see if I can find the article on wear levelling for SSd's
