About to get one of these on offer at £99+
http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Hard+Drives+%28SSD%29/Crucial+RealSSD+C300+64GB+2.5%22+SATA+6Gb%2Fs+Solid+State+Hard+Drive+?productId=40695
simply for use as a boot/application drive for windows 7.
Write of 70 is more than adequate as its the read @ 335 which will turn my system into a bandwidth demon and an access time of 0.1.
I've been holding off for a deal like this and it finally seems the price vs perfomance vs space is right.
The question is can I get better from ntel/Ocz/kingston offerings?

I do hope the "up to 355 MB/s" read speed and "up to 70 MB/s" write speed in the specifications are not the same "up to"s as the "up to 8 Mb/s" broadband we all know and love...0

Decent read speeds but only 70 MB/s write? The C300 certainly seems to be topping the charts at the higher capacities but they have three times the write bandwidth.... then again they cost £450....
Edit, mind you 70 MB/s seems about average for <100GB SSDs0 -

thats what i was thinking, and 64gb is more than ample for windows and all my apps, even a few games too :T0 -
Yeah, write speeds are pretty low but read speeds are excellent. I'd find it hard to justify spending so much on only 64GB though. For the price you could get 3x500GB sata drives, and those in raid0 would give you more like 300MB/sec read and 300MB/sec write. Of course seek times wouldn't compare and power consumption would be greater. For myself, throwing large files around a lot, 300MB/sec read and write would be much more important than 0.1ms access time. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

i've done raid 0 before, one of the drives got corrupted and i lost all my data. Meaning i'd need 4 drives to do a mirror which is even more headache factor!
It was more a comparison of is there a better SSD than this for £100 ish before i buy?0 -
even a few games too :T
If I had an SSD I'd probably still keep my OS only on the SSD and games on a separate drive, less likely to clutter/fragment/wear it out shuffling the ones i wanted to play on/off the thing and filling it up with saves.
...would probably start looking for a second SSD soon after tho to get the best of both worlds0 -

my suggestion would be Kingston 64GB SSDNow from ebuyer at £99 if no SATA 6-G
you can only get the top speeds on with dedicated PCI-Express host controller SATA 6-G0 -

do you get clutter/fragment/wear on an SSD though?
Technically yes, but the clutter/fragmentation doesn't matter when you're looking at a 0.1ms seek time. Seek time is so short as to be insignificant.
And the controllers have algorithms to spread data, and therefore wear, around the drive so you'd have to write to the entire drive more times than you'd conceivably write to a drive. It'll outlast a mechanical drive in any case. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0
