Wrong Gender Guinea-Pig

We bought our first guinea-pig from pets at home [a female], and give another guinea pig from a friend [that was also a female]. The latter one died after only having her for a few months [wasn't used to being outside we think, she was very old], so we got another guinea-pig from Pets at Home and asked for a female as we didn't want babies.

Anyway a few months down the line the first Guinea-pig had babies. We blamed our friends guinea-pig, mainly as the babies born look exactly like that guinea-pig and I'd watched them check it was the right sex [so I'd thought so]. I had a friend to sex the babies, and kept just the females for my nephew [they live next door].

I did realise they can have babies so early. Pardon my ignorance. But, now we have three guinea-pigs with suspicious swollen tummies.

So the third guinea pig we got is clearly male, we took her to my friends to double check.

What can I do? And can I claim anything for the inconvience?

    Report them to the CSA
Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.

4 out of 5 hamsters we have bought over the years have been incorrectly sexed

In one case we thought we had a boy so named is approprietly, unfortunately we had to take it back for adoption, they re sexed??? it and said it was a girl. A week later they had it for adoption calling it sun shadey:eek:

How can they mistake a hamster's sex, have you seen the size of the testicles on a male one, even at a very early age

Sorry but when I did sex education, it was the female that got pregnant, not the male!

Oh God, I rushed to type that as hadn't realised the time and had to pick my young-man up from pre-school.

To just summarise, bought 1 guinea-pig from PAH and was given 1 guinea-pig from a friend. The one from friend died, replaced it with another one from PAH. All should have been females, but we got baby guinea-pigs somehow from the first guinea-pig... Blamed my friends guinea-pig.

But, we had kept two female guinea-pigs that are 3-months [didn't realise they were sexually mature from 4-weeks] old now. And got rid of the other guinea-pigs. Those two and original guinea-pig now have swollen tummies. So, the second one bought from PAH must be a male...

And now I'm paying for loads of food for tiny little mouths and hungry pregnant/lactating Mums all over again!!!

Oh, and you can barely get any money for standard guinea-pigs... I'd prob have a hard time giving them away.

Can't you just get the male one neutered? Pets at Home are incompetent idiots who don't have a clue about animals! I bought my guinea pigs from there and the guy told me I could only have one as they aren't sociable and fight to the death!!!! Maybe he thought guinea pigs were grown up hamsters??

Find a Preuvian or Ecuadorian restaurant. That should solve the problem.

Perhaps time for a serious response?

I would thought there's little you can do but write to head office to complain, so that would be your best bet. Explain the situation clearly and see what they say.
