over winter months it is quite common for refrigerant to escape through the seals as they rely on the pag oil in system to lubricate and maintain a good seal.

get a specialist to look at it,there may be a hose leak or it may have lost it all through seals, whatever is the cause the system will need a good vac down before recharging with the correct weight of refrigerant not to mention the UV dye for ease of leak detection.

the halfrauds can will not do all this for you

Car's just had its 13th birthday (but had a new compressor, hoses etc. 4 years ago). If the aircon starts warming up again I'll put the other half of the can in...

When R134a is banned I look forward to Halfords DIY kits for liquid ammonia, CO2, propane or whatever to replace it.

You can get Ez Chill on ebay for about £28 delivered and I've read a few reviews saying that people have managed to do 2 cars. I'll let you know next week as I'll be ordering some on Monday.

Another anti Crick kwap thread, don't you love 'em?

Well actually I do, :T:T:T. One day the message may get through. ;)

    Anti Kwap??!! ha ha!! :T

I can only agree with you there.

Took my car a few years back for replacement rear shockers - Crap Fit claimed the job wasnt to big for them, or to small :rotfl:

2 hours into the job, car up on ramps, tyres, hubs off, the guy never had a socket to fit the nut to remove the shockers!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

He said I could take the car away, as it was or I could go and buy a socket that would fit, at my cost and upto me to find one!!

As car was in bits, went to my local tool shop, didn't sell single socket bits and a set was £70 + VAT - Went back half hour later, the guy had claimed he found one

Took them from 8am till gone 4pm to do it, left, next day an hour on the motorway all the ABS and Traction control lights came on, took it to Ford, Crap Fit hadn't re clipped the ABS wheel sensor wire back, so had been rubbing against tyre wall and melted it causing it to short!

Went back to Crap Fit, they claimed it wasnt them till I told them how I would be informing Trading Standards of there dangerous work and informing the tabs, they brought a new sensor from Ford, £189+ VAT and fitted it.

Will NEVER EVER USE THEM AGAIN though

Stay well clear of Kwik Fit aka Crap Fit

    And not so Harry.

I hate air con. well I don't hate it. I just don't see the need over here. All my last few cars had AC, (by chance), hardly used, and still working at 8/9 years old when sold on.

My good lady loves it, has a 2.5 year old car and it's packed up again. No rules I'm afraid, ;)

Agreed - one of my last cars was 8 years old and it worked very well, as does my current 3.5 year old car and my impending 3 year old one :T

I'll leave the complicated jobs to someone a bit better maybe after the stories here, but I've personally had my aircon recharged in Kwik Fit (I think it's a simple enough job, the problem is the access and the tools) and they're very reasonable. They just repaired a puncture for me for free a few weeks ago, and I noticed that they're charging £30 for a recharge, and won't charge if it's not needed. I think that's hard to argue with!

I see a lot of kicking of kwik fit but the one local to us has repaired a puncture in my tyre (twice) free of charge over the last 6 months.

Never used them for anything else mind :)
