Couldn't afford a school trip and I feel guilty

When i was 14 i asked santa clause for a ps2. On xmas eve i went into front room and my mum was crying her eyes out. She struggled to tell me that she had ordered it from a catalogue and it wouldnt turn up, she was devastated. It was heart renching knowing that i'd caused her to be so upset and made me realise the burden me n big sis put her under. Knowing how much it bothered her not giving me what i wanted made me realise how kool mums are!
Keep it up, sometimes better to say no than having a spolied little poo!
Aww, that's lovely! Bless your Mum and bless you for understanding!! :A
OP, please don't feel guilty.
My 2 have been asked to go abroad with their school and I've had to say No.
1. Because we're already going on a family holiday which is costing a bomb.
2. If I say Yes to 1, I'd have to say Yes to both.
3. Because it's not just the cost school are asking for. It's spending money, appropriate clothing and other things they will need.
I actually told my son he could go on one which was costing £350, but that he would have to use his bday and Christmas money to help pay for it ~ he soon said it didn't matter!

My twins was offered a school trip that would have cost me £400 for the 2 of them for 5days, I think this is a ridiculous price as our local youth club offers the same trip for £75pp and thats not in term time, I told my children they couldn't go as I couldnt afford it and I have booked a break for all of us instead which they are much more excited about, I just think why should I fork out that MUCH for teachers to spend quality time with my children when I can myself. also like morg_monster said try and take them for a little treat something together they sound like good kids im sure they'll love that .athensgeorgia wrote: »Thanks for the replies. I am proud they've accepted it gracefully and fully understood my reasoning. I'm just not looking forward to September when DD2's class go on theirs too.0 -

I'd definitely go down the treat route..... maybe her most favourite meal for tea.
and don't forget to tell her how proud you are of her for understanding why she couldn't go in such an adult way.
She sounds (as does her sister) to be a lovely caring girl and you should be very proud you've brought up such a wonderful pair of children.

that is so very true about it not just being the initial cost of the trip,
my step daughter is going on a school holiday shortly which 'only' cost us £200 which was fine as you get to pay by installments and we budgetted it in, however last month she came home with a loverly list of things she NEEDS to take with her which has set us back another £70 plus the recommended spending money of £30 for the week, really when you agree to these trips you dont then expect them to set you back an extra 50% above the initial price but they usually always do, just so glad i am getting my quidco money this monthDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
