Play.com ipod touch.

Im not sure if this is the correct place to put this but what the heck.

I bought an 'Ipod Touch 3rd Gen' from play.com. Yesterday the OS4 update arrived and i wanted to update the software. Only to now find out they have issued me with a 2nd Gen ipod touch.

I payed £142 for my iPod yet i could of got the one i recieved for much cheaper.

Unfortunately I dont have the invoice from my order. Yet i have the box and the ipod to show, but i still feel that i need the invoice for proof of purchase.

Also on the Play.com website its says ive ordered a 3rd gen.

Any thoughts?

Request a returns number from them,you can do this online by logging into your account...Send it back with the reason being "not what I ordered"

"3rd gen" 8gb Ipod touches sold today run 2g hardware, but come with os3.

Its normal across anywhere that sells them. Anoying the differences are not made explicit by apple, but are implied by having a near-identical but seperate page on their website.

Any reason you can't log in to your Play.com account and look at your order history??

Only the 32GB and 64GB versions of the iPod Touch was 3rd generation, The 8GB remained 2nd gen with the iOS3 software upgrade only, There is no such thing as an 8GB 3rd gen iPod touch. They scrapped the 16GB model at the time of the 3rd Gen release.

I have the order history saying its 3rd gen bladdy blah. but there is a code in which it says that its a 2nd gen but im unsure wether the 3rd gen have the same codes for the 8gb one due to the minor difference. Im going to visit the apple shop and ask about the codes and som on. But apparently they never sold 3rd gen ipod touch 8gb they just issue them as 2nd with new software. So really this i false labelling?

Well it depends on your point of view.

You could quite easily say what your perception of what a 3rd gen ipod touch actually is was incorrect.

Esp since apple does not refer to them as such and does not define what it actually is.

If you are unhappy with the product send it back and see what they say, but if you are happy with it and this is your only point of contention I wouldn't bother personally.

Im more interested in the fact i miss out on OS4 multi-tasking and so on.

Also feel i have been conned out of money

I have a 64gb 3G upgraded to o/s4 22/6/10 restored to o/s 3.1.3 last night, don't be too disapointed it's not all that bad, judging by the complaints today about the iphone 4 I can see there being another major upgrade very soon.

There is no such thing 3rd Generation iPod Touch 8GB. The 8GB is a 2nd Generation with the iOS3 software. The 3rd Generation iPod Touch only came in 32 and 64 GB and shipped with the same iOS3 software. Now 3rd Generation iPods touches will start to be shipped with iOS4.

The apple website states that iOS4 works with late 2008 2nd generation iPod touch. It also says multitasking is not compatable with 2nd gen devices. So either way you don't get that feature

On play.com it was stated as 3rd gen so surely thats false labelling?

Also they have codes on the back of the ipod so you can tell the difference from 3rd and 2nd. So does that mean that the latest ipod touch 2nd gens will have the 3rd gen codes?
