Shifting a 24K debt in a year?????

So, update for today...
Camera has been sent off for repair under warranty, good news, didn't want to be shelling out for another one!
Bad news on the transfer front. Goldfish refused to transfer a balance for me, even if not done on a promotional rate, apparently balance transfers are a 'benefit'. I have to admit to having a full on strop after I got off the phone. I can't transfer a balance even though there is room on my card, yet I could go and spend that money no problem running myself further into debt. Just feels like you're banging your head against a brick wall sometimes - you're doing all you can and just feels like they're determined to make things harder for us.
I wanted to shift my Lloyds balance before trying to move MBNA onto Lloyds so that the original balance didn't get stuck behind it.
Been having a think though and may have to move the MBNA balance regardless. The MBNA card is costing me £150 a month interest which is crippling. I know if the Lloyds balance gets 'stuck' then it will cost me £50 a month and I won't be able to change that which isn't very MSE but am struggling to see any other way forward at the mo.
Of course this is assuming that Lloyds stick to their 'get paid three more times' and actually let me move the balance!:(
On a brighter note, I have been over to the PAD thread and posted my payment to MBNA for today £160.98! :j
Off out for a friends bday tonight too, stayed in all weekend so that I could afford this so am looking forward to it!
Sorry to hear about your goldfish issues, you are right when you said they just try and make it as hard as possible! I have my fingers and toes crossed that you can move the MBNA balance as that interest is very very nasty!
Keep it up

Beccie what an inspiring challenge you have set yourself, good luck will it and i'm looking forward to following your progress
Its made me think how much interest i'm paying each month, theres no better incentice is there, its like throwing a third of my salary down the drain each month :eek:0 -
It's frightening, all the interest repayments! It's weird, when I took out my loan, not once did I really look at the huge interest that I would be paying back, which is currently about £200 a month! It's just wrong!
Anyway, one thing is for sure, the only other thing in my life I get with interest repayments will be a mortgage! Once this debt is gone, never again!Adam's diary - My Debt Diary - The Challenge | LBM May 2010 with £23,343.35 | £16,141.46 to go...

Love your diary ahd have subscribed. Your situation sounds very similar to mine. At least you're doing something about it now - not leaving it to your 30's when your debt would be almost 40K, like mine was  (I'm 44 now)
I think getting a credit card when I was 18 and a student was the begining of my debt problems too! I seemed to have more money when I had pocket money and a Saturday job! I went to at least 2 concerts a month, bought loads of film and music magazines, like Smash Hits and Kerrang! a month (which I now sell on ebay!) and even saved for 2 week holiday to Malta!
Hi and thanks!
Ha ha, at least that's given you something to sell now to try and raise cash! Know what you mean though, even if you only earn a little when your money is your own and not owed to creditors you will always be better off. Something I keep reminding myself of to keep my motivation up!
Do you have a diary?
PS You have done so well to push your debt down so much!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
Hi Beccie!
Really enjoying reading your diary. I go through phases of motivation/demotivation and reading your posts are thoroughly motivating me.
I have a debt (which I don't want to reveal the extent at the moment) - it's manageable but I want to get rid of it. I am sick of spending two thirds of my wages on the necessities of life then three quarters of the remainder on paying off my debts so I am now going to start again again.
I will try and keep up with your postings to keep me up and at it!
So now I am going to re-apply to experian for my free information- again!
Keep it up, you are doing so well so far!

Hi T!
Thanks for dropping by!
It may be strange but hearing that me trying to keep my motivation up helps keep someone else's motivation up in turn then helps keep my motivation up! Weird, but a win/win situation I guess!
I know what you mean, kind of feels like life's on hold a bit when so much of your wages goes towards paying debt off.
Can you get the free credit report more than once then and it's still free? I have it at the moment but don't want to start paying for it when the trial is up.
Hope you'll drop by again!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
So, just to bore you all, my update for today!
Worked at the pub last night – 6 till close – so that’s my worst day out the way. Didn’t get out till nearly one (what is with drunk people who won’t go home???) then on the way home walking up the road I heard screaming and swearing, getting closer I realised it was a massive fight that I had to walk past. I was thinking great, normally my boyfriend always picks me up but he’d got stuck in London, and that’s when this happens! Crossed the road to try and go round it, bout 15 blokes fighting, they smashed one guys head into railings blood everywhere, really nasty. Then it spilled across the street, straight towards me, I managed to avoid it by going up the middle of the road and then get round the corner to walk up the road towards my flat. Called the police on my mobile soon as I got round the corner, so many people were watching from their windows but didn’t seem to be doing anything and it was getting nasty. Got off the phone to the police just as I got to my front door, home safe and sound! Called my boyfriend to let him know bout my eventful night, bless him he felt bad for not being there but not his fault, and by then I was not scared anymore and pleased with myself for calling the police!
Flat viewing this morning and we finally have one yay!I’m unfortunately £276.50 poorer in admin fees (it is robbery!) but it was a cost I had expected so I had the money put aside in my online saver. I had budgeted £300 so that’s a little bit more to pay off a card. My half of the rent maybe slightly higher than budgeted. Originally £350 but now may be £375, depends if the landlord accepts our lower offer on rent. Will re-do SOA if necessary.
Also paid in £80 to the bank – wages from pub and cleaning - and have already paid that towards evil MBNA.
Have also picked up an extra shift working Saturday night in the pub and am being very MSE and made a big batch of soup on Sunday that I have frozen and then am bringing in for lunches.
Plan for tonight is to clean my flat while my boyfriends out at work (best time to get stuff done!) and then…attempt to transfer MBNA to Lloyds – wish me luck!!!!!!!!!!!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
