Windows Defender works well as a Firewall

defender is not a firewall, it is an anti-spyware applicationEver stop to think and forget to start again?0

steer clear of zonealarm can cause all sorts of probs with stuff, if you have a firewall on a router then that will be far better than any software firewall0

I used to have Norton on all three of my lappies. Then I got fed up of paying for a system that used up a lot of space and could be replaced for free. So I uninstalled Norton and got:
AVG
Spybot
Ad-aware
Sygate (which I want to replace with Kerio)
and Ccleaner for good measure.
Less space taken, faster lappies, smoother all round.
And no forking out - not a penny.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
Norton is terrible for popups and asking you questions... so if you play games on your pc..never go norton as it keep jumping you out of games :P0

Avoid norton like the plague
I use Mcafee ISS on my laptop and its fine performance didnt take a hit like it does with norton.
My pc downstairs uses an old mcafee virus scan 4.5 that continues to keep updating and I use Kerio firewall. I have a Sonicwall hardware firewall to install at some point in the near future which will remove the need for kerio. Im a reseller for CMI labs and the inteligent control is really good install and ignore, no messing with configuration it doesnt even bother you when it finds a virus file or an infected file it deals with them the correct way. none of my customers have had a virus for the last 4 years since we started selling it the older mcafee sometime reset the update schedule. AVG is !!!!e I was clearing a pc today that uses avg and it was infected. yes its free but whats the point if it doesnt work? unfortunalty the guy has just bought the full paid for version of it I ould love to see it work but I expec I will be returning to the site in the near fuure again for an infection0 -

Can't always blame the AV. Most times its the failure to update AV that lets down any make of AV.
You don't use the computer online for a month or so ( believe me, users are not all like us - its the innocents who are the first victims ... ) Go online and in the time it takes before the next scheduled check for updates is made . Bingo !! - you are done mate !qui tacet consentire -

Very true and infact with AVG I seem to be downloading updates 2 to 3 times a week, which is a lot more than with the likes of Mcafee0 -
Norton was taken off my laptop and replaced by AVG by repairman. He was looking at it because it was so slow. Says AVG is fine for my use and it is free. All is fine so far.0
