McAfee or Norton?

Hi,

My yearly subs is due. Currently using McAfee Internet Security Suite. No problems with it at all. Never had a virus etc etc. Easy to set up with network etc.

Now, been reading bits saying how McAfee lacks security and weak.

So...Who recommends McAfee or Norton?

I remember having Norton a while ago, and it was a complete pig to set up the network, so went to McAfee.

Thanks,

MS

I personally would choose McAfee out of the two.

Norton is hog of computer resources especially at startup. If you have networked computers I found Norton very slow to 'auto detect' network settings.

With regards to wekaness in security, I feel that they all have their weaknesses at some point.

I work as a network engineer and use Sophos AV (used to work for them too;) ) and at home use F-Secure.

Very good question... and it comes down to how you use your computer. If you're an big downloader, then, maybe you wouldn't mind sparing some computer resources for Norton. However, if you're not, then, maybe Macafee will do just fine.

I personally use Avast.... I have never had a problem with it, and it's free.

I got Norton with my PC, seems fine to me!
  • Just use pc for surfing, emailing, home network, and internet banking & online shopping, not really into downloading huge amounts.

I agree with the above about Norton, real resource hog. I use Kaspersky and have never had a problem. Heard great things about nod32.
  • I'll second NOD32 - and steer clear of norton

I'd suggest using either Avast! (https://www.avast.com) or Anti-Vir (https://www.free-av.com) if its for home use.

Both are free, I've installed them on a lot of my friends PC's and never had a problem with either.

Saves £20 a year on subs!

    Use Zonealarm free for firewall.

Neither I would go with AVG for antivirus and ZoneAlarm for firewall - both free. I'll post links in a second
