Disabled people are not the only ones facing cuts. Do you not read about the cuts being made to child tax credits? To LHA rates etc I think that might affect a few parents.

You missed the part out where they said that they were increasing the child element to £150 above inflation and £60 above infaltion in 2012.

People chose to become parents - I didn't choose to inherit a disease from one of my parents.

what about the ones who lose it altogether as eligibility income is decreased?

was the household cap for me, we do get extras from tax credits which im sure they could cap but the dla is for each person in their own right and picking who should benifit from what money would do anyone anygood. we dont get any help with housing council tax or ib,is,esa. our dla money goes on things to help the person awarded, mine for petrol to drive places as i cant walk them, help with cleaning, washing clothes, prepared foods, the kids go towards the bedding we go through, clothes due to staining, child chewing. things my autistic son breaks , then activities to keep them occupied whilst having to be still for feeding medical procedures. costs opf being in hospital.

if they cap dla then we would be getting penalised for being disabled over someone else because we have more of us. we all still have our own needs as much as the next person. also in our case we do have increased costing for bills due to running two feeding machines day and night plus heating and lights and tv for the poor !!!!!! who has to stay up half the night.

also carers is capped to one payment per person, im classed as carer to both my kids but only get one amount.

Was she earning too much? She would still have had the underlying entitlement I expect.

Can i ask what the benefits of having it in name only would be, only asking as my husband earns too much to get it so we didnt bother.

All child tax credit elements are means tested.

No you didn't. But the fact that you did inherit that disease doesn't give you a RIGHT to dip into every one else's pockets without anyone ever questioning it.

Krisskross is correct - everyone is going to have to tighten their belts and have less over the next 5 years or so. My husband and his colleagues (who all work very hard) have taken pay cuts over the last 2 years, to ensure their employer continues to be successful. It's disappointing, and it's hard, but it's better than getting no income at all.

A lot of people who were expecting to retire at 60 or 65 have just been told that they will have to work longer. Some people are likely to lose their jobs as the public sector shrinks to a level we can afford.

Why should WE be exempt from the country-wide cuts, just cos life dealt us a bum hand. It isn't your fault that you have a disability, but it isn't any one else's fault either.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

i know that bit, i meant we get two disabled child premiums added. are those means tested too or just a basic amount.

My hubby earns pretty much minimum wage so we do qualify for tax credits and will after the cut.

also to others, even those of us on benefits will have to budget as payments arent getting higher but the cost of living is with vat going up. we now have to tighten our belts worry how the hell we will manage if they mess up dla.

Perhaps then your parents should shoulder the burden of your additional costs instead of taxpayers who had nothing to do with your illness.

what a silly comment to make...Lots of families have hereditary conditions that are awful.

i hate the thought that i gave my children the condition that i have but i didnt know that i had a genetic condition untill after my children were born so the arguement that i made the choice isnt relevant.

My comment was specifically aimed at sh1305 who complains about his/her 'entitlements' interminably.

However would you advise your children never to have children of their own if they are ever in the position to do so? Just curious.
