I have just signed up for this service and am thinking about placing my first order at the end of the week.
I just wondered what everyone's experiences were, and whether they make a habit of substituting goods?

Make sure you use a money off voucher, there are many posted here in MSE.
They do make substitutions now and again. If you don't want them to, you can select don't substitute on an item by item basis near the end of your shop.Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0 -
Hi Bridj,
I have used Tescos a few times and each time they sent stuff I hadn't ordered and once they even substituted Quorn mince (I'm a veggie) for normal beef mince, now how stupid is that I don't think the packing staff even bothered to think about it that day. Then on the last time I used them I had a real nightmare, they turned up 4 hours late after numerous phone calls from me, they said they were down a driver through illness and that they had been to me but I was out, that was a lie as I never go anywhere except hospital and am always in. Anyhow they said they would keep my stuff on the van and deliver it the next day, I went ape and told them I didn't want food which had sat spoiling on their van all night. They finally got it here way past 6pm and the driver was very rude and didn't even let me check the list for changes. When I unpacked it half the frozen stuff had gone soft and there was a crack in the fabric conditioner and it had spilt all over my washing powder making both useless. I rang and complained for days and after having to write a long letter I finally got a half refund on my shopping IN VOUCHERS!!! Damn cheek I never used them again and have not even been to the store myself I gave the vouchers to my mum. I know others may of had great experiences and I hope that if you use them that you do too but I thought I'd share my experience with you so as you know what you may be getting in to. I had better time with Asda home shopping and Sainsburys too but they are more pricey. Good luck.0 -
You can also make your choices with regard to substitutions as you shop, just click on the "write note" link on the individual product listing.
Their shopping service is good IME, you usually get most of the items of first choice. Ocasionally they have delivered an item short in which case you just telephone them and they credit your debit/credit card no questions asked.{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}

Some people may have good experience with Tesco home delivery but not me. I signed up with them last year and used home delivery 3 times, and they never got things right - first time was an hour late, second time round was some items not delivered but got charged which took me several phone calls to sort it out and the third time was even worse the shopping I ordered didn't get delivered and yesterday I received an reply email for their customer service telling me if I wish to reorder my shopping with them, as a gesture of apology they will not charge me the delivery cost. I will not bother using them from now on.

Hi just to add my little bit. I've found that they are always late, although i do get a phone call to tell me. On average about 4 things are substituted with daft stuff which i send back, but the worst thing is I find that the BOGOF are charged at full price on invoice so i have to phone which takes ages and costs (0845 no). On the plus side I have recieved freebies with my order and several bits that i haven't paid for, obviously someone elses stuff like crossiants and wine and soap powder and one freebie was dishwashing tablets so give it a go and see0

I've used tescos home delivery for the past two years, have an order once a fortnight. Perhaps I have been exceptionally lucky, but I really cant complain. They are always on time, usually no more than a couple of substitutes, good dates on the fresh stuff, and fruit and veg always fine. I am not easily pleased by anything, but I have recommended tesco home delivery to a lot of my friends and think the service is excellent.0

I've used them once (only one, as I personally would rather go to the shop myself and pick what I want). I found that the driver was very friendly, explained exactly what happened, went through everything with me. He was on time as well. The food was ok with only one substitution.
The only thing I didn't like was the delivery charge! £5.99 is very expensive when the shop is only down the road! It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know0 -
I have had nothing but good service from my local Tesco store. My shopping is always on time, sometimes they ring me to ask if they can deliver a few minutes earlier if they are ahead with the schedule.
The Tesco drivers are lovely friendly and extremely polite. If i had a regular driver i would nominate him for the 'Driver of the Year' award that Tesco are doing at the moment.
I always try and substitute my items if they dont have the particular type that i want if its out of stock - so i dont have any weird and wonderful combinations.
The pickers are good too, i always print out my shopping list after i have gone through checkout and sometimes as i check my shopping against the invoice i get, i have noticed sometimes i forget and have only put one item in my basket when its a bogof by mistake, the pickers always notice my error and bung the extra one in.
All but praise from my store. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks for sharing everyone!
We are going to do our usual shop at Morrisons tomorrow night, then I'm going to compare prices with Tesco online to see if it works out cheaper...0 -
Just to add bridie ... I've shopped online with Tesco for a couple of years and always found them brilliant to deal with. Sure, they have to make substitutions sometimes but, as mentioned, you can stipulate what you'd prefer (though it may not be in stock and you'll end up with something else!). I find their Customer Services line very efficient if there's a problem and refunds for items not wanted are always arranged promptly.
Reading people's experiences on Tesco.com, it largely seems to depend on the efficiency of your local store ... hope you're luckier than some and good luck!
There are plenty of us to help out if need be.:)Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0
