    Hi

I have signed up for almost all the big supermarkets and find that Ocado are the best when it comes to delivery (1 hour slots instead of 2) and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. The food is excellent but more expensive than the average. Delivery is free over £75. Ocado is the only place I have never had any problems with. I agree with the delivery charges being over the top, Asda is £4 odd, Tesco ranges from £3.99-£5.99 and iceland are free over £40. Sainsburys get my thumbs down award because of all the problems with missed delivery slots, excuse after excuse, delivery after delivery, so I gave up with them although everytime there was a problem I did ring up and complain and either got a reduction (Delivery charge should always be refunded if they are really late) or vouchers. The best one was a delivery of someone`s elses stuff, including Lamb joints, exotic fruits and Artichoke ( which was all expensive bits) must have been around £70. When I phoned Sainsburys they said it couldn`t be picked up, So throw it away. Considering my chest freezer was bulging at the seams with the stuff I hadn`t ordered and my fridge had never seen so much food in one go, you can imagine what I thought to that!

Anyway, the moral of this story is : If you order from different stores instead of the same every week, after a while you will get an email with a money off code, begging you to come back and shop. I had 1 from Tesco for £5 last week and ignored it, They sent another for £10 today. Ocado offered £5 off and now I`m promised a pressie if I go back and shop. Try them all, Sainsburys I wouldn`t miss! Good Luck :D

  • I'm getting the impression from these posts that the service you get may depend on where you live - i.e. which store is fulfilling the order. I've used Tesco 3 times for deliveries. They're always late (I missed a doctor's appointment last time and had to cancel it), and I've never managed to get compensation for that. The substitutions aren't really a problem as you can decline them at the door. The real problems I've had have been:

    (a) they seem to think that one bag will only fit one item in it, which is completely stupid and unenvironmentally friendly

    (b) they always "miss" items - get refunded if you ring their (non-0800) number but still annoying

    (c) you get other peoples' items - great if you like what they order, not so great when you don't

    (d) I've had black, split potatoes, out of date yoghurt, cracked eggs - DON'T use them for perishables is my advice

    (East London)

I've gone to Sainsburys now - only one delivery so far but on time (in a one hour delivery slot rather than 2 hour, with a guarantee of a refund if they're late), completely correct order, and good quality veg.

Tesco have just sent me a 10 pound off voucher - only after I responded to a "you haven't used us for a while, have 5 pounds off" email with a reply explaining exactly why.

Home delivery is great for buying in bulk, especially for heavy items and special offers (I don't have a car so I'm limited to what I can carry home if I shop at the store). But service varies between supermarkets - probably more so between local stores than from one company to another.

I've shopped with Tesco for 10 mths now, deliveries have always been on time, substitutions do happen but can always refuse these at time of delivery if you don't want them, and have had the odd damaged item which has always been refunded. As our nearest Tesco is 16 miles away I don't object to paying the delivery charge (usually go for midweek delivery which is £3.99, unless I have a voucher to use). As it takes me 2 hours or more to do a shop myself, I consider the delivery charge is well spent as regards the proportion of time/petrol it would cost me. Plus I absolutely hate supermarket shopping, IMO I get a great service from them, but I haven't used any other supermarkets to have anything to compare them to.

    Hi
I've been using Tesco.com since November last year. The substitutions have been OK. I have had a few items that I didn't order & weren't on the bill. A few weeks ago I ordered 4 packs of pringles & when I came to open them 1 pack was open with half the contents missing. I phoned the customer service & they refunded the cost of all 4 packs. They have always so far been within the 2 hour delivery slot & the drivers have been polite & friendly.:)
Love to save & love a bargain

I've used Tesco's 3 times now. Never really had a problem - they've always been on time and the only complaint was that my bananas were all black and bruised one time so got a refund. I usually only get my store cupboard/heavy stuff online and leave my fresh meat and veg for when I can go and choose it myself though.

In fact, due a big shop for tinned stuff etc soon, so I'll just have to make sure I have the discount vouchers. Effectively never paid for delivery yet.

My friend uses Sainsburys - late, missed items etc etc. Also, I find Sainsburys too expensive. Haven't got Waitrose round here though.
