Im so angry my blood is boiling, ive returned to work on a part time basis but was not able to return to my old job due to red tape so have been given another role which I was happy about but when I arrived the people who where there did not know I was coming and therefore did not have anything prepared for me to do. I was shoved at a desk without a much of a hello and told to get on with it (i did work for them during the end of my pregnancy) so i knew some things that needed to be done but things have changed.
I have not been in the building for 14 months yet I was not reminded of fire and evacuation or given any breifings of changes to the building.
I have been given a job of sorting out paperwork in to date order then putting info on computer, I asked where the info would go bearing in mind that this same info comes in by the box load everyweek and they say nowhere it just stays on the computer and does nothing, I therefore asked the question WHY BOTHER THEN and they couldnt answer it. THIS IS GOING TO DRIVE ME MAD:mad: its such a boring task that i will never be able to catch up and complete and no amount of money is worth me getting this stressed over something so stupid but I cant help it.
oh and as i work afternoons I was left on my own after an hour of getting there!
What shall I do? Give it at least 6 weeks, Quit, or wait to get the sack

Don't quit today, give it a bit longer at least! If they didn't know you were comming then they may need a bit of time to build up your job specifics, so it might get better. They will have to get used to working with you as much as you will have to get used to being back working for someone else after 14 months at home with the most precios thing in the world to you:D
I think you have got to give it a fortnight then if things don't improve speak to personnel about not being happy, they should explore all options with you before you give up.
Good luck;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

I know the feeling i returned to work after maternity and I still hate every minute of it and would rather be at home with my family but I need the money to pay of our debts - its a thing I hate and i am always having dreams of opening our own business or doing something different but it never really happens.
Anyway enough of my moaning - I am sure you will get back into the routine of working shortly - do you have friends at the office, anyone nice to speak to or confind in?

Work that isn't taxing enough may be boring but at least it means you can ease into working life again without worrying about whether you are doing things right or not. Giveit a month and once you are into the swing of things contact personnel or your manager and request more responsibility, or a different post.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Just a note to send you good wishes and moral support.
Don't do anything too hasty. Give yourself a bit of time to adjust.

daisykate, one way to look at it is work is a rest then, meaning more energy for your time with bubba.

if they have not shown you this, it is also an equal part of your responsibilities an an employee to follow it up and get it sorted. best bet is to speak to the building manager or your line manager and tick it off."This is a forum - not a support group. When I first started the job I'm currently employed in the first week was awful and I seriously considered not returning after the first day, they had me doing the donkey work not what I was employed to do. After a week we were asked to write a review of our first week and I wrote I hated it and was considering quitting. It turned out that the two girls I was employed to work with were so stressed because of being under staffed that they didn't have time to train me so gave me the boring time consuming jobs so they could get on with their work. Anyway things changed and I'm still there 10 years later and still enjoy it.
So the moral of this story ? Give it a week or two to let things settle, if things are still miserable then go and see personnel and tell them you expected a bit more! Good luck.0 -
Aww I'm just back to work after maternity leave too... hate it as well, but I'm treating it as just a job (no other option as we need the money!) and I have a lovely wee family to come home to. If you do go down the lines of resigning, please look into how it will work with your maternity pay. I work in the NHS and we have to work for 3 months when returning from maternity leave or we have to pay back the maternity pay.tying hard to cut down grocery shop bill...0

I'd give it a week or so and if nothing improved I would leave. Life's too short to spend one minute of it doing anything you don't want to no matter how much money it's for.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

My first day back today after eight months on maternity leave, added to the fact that DS came five weeks early and I hadn't finished work yet so it's felt a bit weird anyway.
There's a union meeting in my office tomorrow and I'm fully intending to go to raise the issue of the shoddy treatment of employees on maternity leave and their return. The work I do involves quite a bit of legal stuff which is changing all the time and I've been informed of nothing while I've been off, and also no vacancies or anything (which they are supposed to do). There's also been a job evaluation which I've not been told about, and even small things like my pay slip continued to be sent to the office, but luckily my friend has been posting it to me, however, my last two pay slips from after my maternity leave ended and my annual leave kicked in have been sent direct to my home!!!
Also, one of the other girls in my team was rushed into hospital five weeks ago to have her appendix out and is due back in a week. Not only did our manager visit her in hospital when he hadn't been near me, but she's had a letter to make an appointment with the Service's occupation health nurse to make sure she's okay to return. And I've had nothing!!!!! The two senior managers didn't even say hello to me today!! Oh, and I've no longer got a desk with a computer on (until another girl leaves shortly) so I'm "hotdesking" which I hate with a passion - I had a desk of my own until I left.
The worst thing of all was that I'd even forgotten how to use the phone!!! Well to transfer a call anyway. I made light of it but it's really scary. And although the same friend who sent me the pay slips has said that I must just ease myself back in (she's on leave at the moment), the girl I was with today was so overworked and stressed that I felt really guilty at not being much help because I've just forgotten anything.
Anyway, just to say I know how you feel, and this meeting tomorrow is the start of my campaign for better treatment for maternity leave returnees!!!!
JxxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0
