Why can't I get some sort of discount on London Underground?

It is possible for me to get an overground to waterloo and then walk, but a zone 1-6 travelcard covers this anyway and it would be a lot easier if I was able to use the underground as well...0

the sad truth of modern day life is that those who can afford to give their time for free are often comfortably off. volunteering is very commendable but a bit of a middle class luxury tbhsquaaaaaaaaacccckkkkkk!!!! :money:0

I've volunteered for a couple of organisations before and both have always paid my travel expenses. One of them also gave me lunch on days where I stayed a full day in their office. This really is something to investigate. Ask the organisation how they can help you.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

It isn't - the 'overground' doesn't serve Waterloo. OK I'm being picky about terminology but it does make a practical difference to fares depending on which operator prices your ticket
You may find a National Rail season ticket from your starting station to Waterloo is cheaper than the travelcard. For example Surbiton to Waterloo is £36.20 a week

If I am right (am not a London resident - yet - so anyone who knows better please correct me if this is wrong) London Overground is a network of rail services managed by TfL. However, there are also National Rail services managed by a range of different train companies which go from/to central London train stations and through London boroughs (normally finishing outside Zone 6). If the OP is coming into Waterloo by train then it is likely that they are using National Rail services, as AFAIK London Overground does not cover Waterloo."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
well i live and work in london and i thought all train companies were independent - for example southern verus south eastern versus first capital connect.... i don't think any overground trains are 'managed' by TfL, although they do use TfL managed stations. i can't remember it ever being different.....?:happyhear0

In terms of overground/underground (wombling free, the wombles of wimbledon....
) TFL manage the underground tube network, the DLR and London Overground.
There are also train services which use the national rail network which are often described as overground trains to distingush them from the tube network but these are not London Overground, in the same way as London Underground, but trains like any other in the country and thus are run by different companies outside of TFL.0 -
so which is a London Overground train then? there are southeastern trains (just as an example) that run all the way to the south coast, and ones that run from zone 6 to zone 1.........:happyhear0

Get on your bike.
I used to ride through all 6 zones to get to/from work, saving a fortune on travel costs. Or do it 3 days a week etc.0
