Realistically, the only way is to contact the site owner and ask them.

Then it will have been in house designers. We have our own web team, and I work in a government post.
Might as well be a couple of 10 year olds though.......they're awful....:D

    He, he

I've been complaining about ours for ages, and finally they're doing a revamp. I don't see it being any better though. Outdated and stodgy programming, poor layouts, chunks of relevant and connected information randomly placed throughout the site. Honestly they'd be better off without a site, it just seems to confuse people even more.

    Or give me the job;)

Im going to send you a private message with the site in question, and no Im not going to post it here if anyone asks.
  • It might say somewhere in the source code, click "view" on your browser and then "page source" (or just "source" if using IE) and have a look.

The company I work for always has the name of the person who wrote the code at the top of it, but that's not the same as the person who designed it!

  • you could try looking up various stuff here

    http://www.dnsstuff.com/

it could give you some clues, (nameservers, location, etc) but if it's a gov jobby then it may not be so relevant

We've done governement work, although I don't think you'll find our company name on any of the sites. It's within the compiled code, but you won't be able to access it.
