Calls whilst abroad

Hi,

My boss is on Vodafone and travels alot especially to the US and France.

Whilst there he makes and receives alot of calls to/from US, UK & France.

His last bill was over £600 and he has asked me  to find him a cheaper way of doing this.

I took a look at the article on this, but to be honest it left me more confused.

He tells me he is perfectly happy to swap sim cards, but wont go and buy one whilst he is away. He thinks he has heard of a company in Holland that will send him 3 sim cards (UK/US/Mainland Europe).

Whilst he would prefer to keep his current number on all the cards, for the right solution he may be flexible.

Any tips?

Thanks,
Sarah

  • Hi,

Vodafone’s revamped Passport section of their UK website gives you all the information you need on what networks and countries are supported and how to connect and stay on the preferred network:

    http://www.abroad.vodafone.co.uk/index.cfm?do=cost.passport&me=a2&nu=1&le=2

If your boss needs to unlock his mobile then he can do this by contacting Vodafone by going to https://www.vodafone.co.uk, selecting ‘contact us’ and ‘email’. Here he can forward his details over to our customer service team who’d be able to request the NUC (network unlock code).

    Please include the following details:

    - IMEI number (this can be found on the back of the battery panel, or by entering * # 0 6 # into the phone and pressing send)
    - Make and model of handset.

I’d recommend him typing the code FIT135 into the body of the email to ensure his query is moved to the most suitable person to deal with your request.

Once received, Vodafone would be able to request the NUC code from the manufacturer (e.g. Nokia, Samsung etc)

This code is free of charge if the mobile is over twelve months old. If the handset is under twelve months then there would be a fee of £19.99. This is either debited from the account or the relevant calling credit needs to be applied onto the handset by the user at the time of applying for the code.

If you're going to be dealing with his account queries I'd also recommend (if he hasn't already done so) dropping Vodafone a quick email to add you as an authorisation to discuss the account (it just makes things a little easier if you're acting on his behalf and stops those pesky 'non account holder' problems when dealing with customer services.

Hope this gives you a couple of options that you can look into.
