I work as a kitchen sales advisor in B&Q and i get alot of customers annoyed with me because i tell them that they cannot buy the speedstone surfaces separately. I dont think that would benefit in sales for te company by selling it separately as we would have so many returns and complaints because people would be fitting them incorrectly. When you purchase your kitchen and speedstone worktops we have qualified fitters who have been on courses and have all the correct tools to fit your worktops which makes so much more sense!!!!
It is all there for the customers benefit.0 -

Hi,
Interesting post!
The thing is the B&Q speedstone product is way over priced. If people looked around they would find much better quality solid quartz work surfaces supplied and installed by specialist stone work surface fabricators. Which benefits the customer much more!0 -
CK is spot on, shop around you will find a much better product for the same price or less. dont forget the overcharging on the b+q installation.0

Type the following phrase into google and you'll get 10+ fabrication companies that can supply and fit for you.
granite worktops scotland0 -
The sparkly worktops are quartz worktops, i work for long while in the stone industry. There are varying qualities in materials and this is often reflected in the pricing. Be very carefull buying online as firms often sell lengths with no cut outs in, make sure you get a full template and installation service and everything is listed out on the quotation.
Alot of the big superstores use thin quartz stuck to a mdf sheet, ie the worktop will not be solid quartz throughout.
Main brands are Okite (italian), Silestone (spanish) these are well known established companies and produce a higher quality of worktop and often come with a guarantee.
The cheaper ranges in these type of worktop often have unconsistant and sporatic flecks of mirror chips and an orange peel look between these flecks and the durability of these products is unknown yet. The better brands will always have full product specifications etc.
Quartz as a worktop is much more durable then granite and also does not absorb like granite actually has zero %, all natural stone is porous, so granite although very hard wearing will absord liquids, unlike the quartz.
need to know anything else just ask0 -
b & q sell them but they are pricey but so nice, I went for the ebony gloss when i did my kitchen last year and this one came in just after we finished the kitchen. I would have gone for this one instead.
they are £104.00 in b&q
Errr....no, Ebony Gloss is the cheaper (nasty) one!
The Quartz-type are not sold seperately by B &Q.
Anyway, I reckon the OP is better off getting better units and laminated top and swerve the "Speedstone".0 -
B & Q wont supply this unless you buy a kitchen ,there is a guy on Ebay selling these tops ,he buys them from the same supplier .Got to be worth a look0
