The headline in the Daily Express today says that car insurance will rise by 40%. (I don't read the Express, I'd be more likely to cut my arm off than buy a copy, I just saw it on the shelf at the newsagents.

Lol, the premiums will go up but expect to still be pushed towards a 50/50 claim as going to court costs money.

1 Million Motorists driving around without insurance, I believe ANPR was introduced to address the problem and should, 3 years on, be at least reducing the numbers, however it seems that the insurers disagree, and its actually increasing and has become rife to a point where we are all likely to be paying extra because the problem is now costing more than than it has ever done.

We can assume that these uninsured motorists are also driving around scot free, without a valid tax disc and possibly MOT too. Wasn't there supposed to be a Government crack down on this, and yet another 'new' system introduced to make this virtually impossible. Hmmm, 1 million people can't be wrong!.

Wasting money on hi-tech toys in mobile white amusement arcades which go "Yabba Dabba Doo" everytime an untaxed / uninsured car is detected is obviously not effective enough!

Drive at 31mph in a 30mph zone and you'll get the hounds of hell chasing you for all eternity, however drive an untaxed, unlicensed vehicle around every day in broad daylight and they'll probably give you an effing Knighthood!.

Because the honest motorist has penalised him / herself by being "on the system" and whose details are only a mouse click away from being sent a speeding fine or a parking ticket, and whose honesty has now made them financially liable for a minor indescretion they make. Even private clampers these days have a whole list of access rights to your personal data!.

The current system is remarkably efficient at doling out fines for those naughty motorists on their database. However, the system becomes seriously flawed and entirely inept when those who are not in the system are still able to flout the rules and may go on to committ even serious offences such as hit and run. The worrying thing about this is that they stand a more than average chance of getting away with it. I know, I have been a victim of it and the police were simply not interested, and with 1 million of the idiots of the road, the odds of "you" also being in a similar situation are pretty high.

Of course, the catch 22 of the situation will be that more people will not be able to afford insurance, and will simply opt out and join the 1 million already enjoying the freedom.....

Great post mate - ask yourself this question - how many speed cameras do you see when you drive to work? Now compare that number with the number of number plate recognition cameras you see. Thats why I'm convinced the Government couldn't give a damn about it. Too much hastle I see, and unless the police force can make a few bob from it like they can with speed cameras can't see things improving.
  • Worth bearing in mind that when car insurance goes up, so does the insurance premium tax going to HM Treasury.

Also note that when you get a standard 3 point speeding ticket - your insurance premium rises by 5-10% - as does your insurance premium tax.

    Gordon Brown Esq. cannot lose.
