Car insurance costs look set to rise following a move by Norwich Union, the UK's second largest car insurer, to raise its rates by an average of 16%.
"The first is personal injury costs - a very large part of your premium covers personal injury - and secondly, there is a major problem around uninsured driving," said Nick Starling of the ABI.
"There's around a million uninsured drivers on the road, and all of us pay £30 on our premiums to cover those."

Police ANPR systems are working well then!.0 -
Yes its disgusting isn't it, low abiding drivers paying for idiots and those who give don't a flying foot for the law. what's wrong with making these idiots pay0

When you renew your road tax online they automatically check that your car is insured.
It doesn't seem a huge step to create a list of cars which are uninsured and write to the keepers saying "we know where you are". If the keeper doesn't respond the car should be impounded until it is insured and a fine/costs paid.0 -
Thats right they do check they also do in PO for road tax and valid insurnace I had right hassle a few years back when I was due to renewal insurnace and had car in garage not used, the insurance was out of date for around a week, not I never intended on using the car in that time, I wouldnt dream of breaking the law. I jsut waiting for my old insurance to relaspse by a week then go as a enw customer rather than renewal my insurnace with sam ecompnay then I could claim cashback.
I barely can afford to use the car anyhow and I need it now for my disabled daughter I dont get any handouts either for her, but I do feel that more needs doing to get this pillocks off the road.0 -

I wonder if NU will still be showing their "make me happy" advert, because I'm not happy.0 -
I changed from NU last year, they refused to give me in writing 5 years no claims and had all sorts of agro from Lloyds insurnace and what point they said in no certian terms they woudl refuse my insurnace, I said to them they can stick there insurance then , they backed down I couldnt do anything else and make NU give me a valid no claims in writing, I wont ever go with NU again, I was with them for two years beofre being with other companies.0

That damn advert does my head in. Oh I'll just try and get a quote by simply saying about 2 words and then wetting myself when they tell me the quote:mad: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -

1 Million Motorists driving around without insurance, I believe ANPR was introduced to address the problem and should, 3 years on, be at least reducing the numbers, however it seems that the insurers disagree, and its actually increasing and has become rife to a point where we are all likely to be paying extra because the problem is now costing more than than it has ever done.
We can assume that these uninsured motorists are also driving around scot free, without a valid tax disc and possibly MOT too. Wasn't there supposed to be a Government crack down on this, and yet another 'new' system introduced to make this virtually impossible. Hmmm, 1 million people can't be wrong!.
Wasting money on hi-tech toys in mobile white amusement arcades which go "Yabba Dabba Doo" everytime an untaxed / uninsured car is detected is obviously not effective enough!
Drive at 31mph in a 30mph zone and you'll get the hounds of hell chasing you for all eternity, however drive an untaxed, unlicensed vehicle around every day in broad daylight and they'll probably give you an effing Knighthood!.what's wrong with making these idiots pay
Because the honest motorist has penalised him / herself by being "on the system" and whose details are only a mouse click away from being sent a speeding fine or a parking ticket, and whose honesty has now made them financially liable for a minor indescretion they make. Even private clampers these days have a whole list of access rights to your personal data!.
The current system is remarkably efficient at doling out fines for those naughty motorists on their database. However, the system becomes seriously flawed and entirely inept when those who are not in the system are still able to flout the rules and may go on to committ even serious offences such as hit and run. The worrying thing about this is that they stand a more than average chance of getting away with it. I know, I have been a victim of it and the police were simply not interested, and with 1 million of the idiots of the road, the odds of "you" also being in a similar situation are pretty high.
Of course, the catch 22 of the situation will be that more people will not be able to afford insurance, and will simply opt out and join the 1 million already enjoying the freedom.....0
