Ryanair - need a bit of baggage advice!

I need to take a flight later in the year & the *best* option (route wise) will be ryanair. They are the only airline that fly between the two most convenient airports. I have flown with most of the other budget airlines but never on Ryanair! Price is good (so far) but I want to ask the experienced Ryanair flyers if they have any more hints & tips ...

I am currently dithering whether I can do this trip with handluggage only (baggage is costing more than the flight!). I travel pretty lightweight anyway, though this trip I need to take a couple of specialist things with me & I need to do some weighing to see if I can get what I need in the weight limit (some items fairly heavy!)

I usually take a small rucksac for my handluggage, but am willing to buy a handluggage suitable case which will make it far more likely that I can get everything in. I was looking at this one

or there's this one, but I worry that the wheels will make it too big ... http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/0759492/Trail/searchtext>SUITCASE.htm

Does anyone have recent experience of flying Ryanair & can advise on a suitable bag that it well within baggage allowance?

oh, and is there generally enough room in the overheads for everyone's luggage? I always stick my rucksack by my feet but I'm guessing that I won't be able to do that with a case!!

We travel lots with Ryanair......great airline...IF you follow the rules.
I only ever take hand luggage.
The only problem I can see with that bag on that link are the wheels included in the measurements ????
Look on Ryanair website for the correct dimensions of the hand luggage bags.
Sometimes these bags can weigh more than the contents you put in them !!!!
A soft rucksack thing is what I use its far easier to cram into the locker or put under the seat.

Nope case has to go up above.
I have been on several flights where the lockers have been full & they have had to open the doors & put the extra bags in the hold !!!
    Causing delays !!
If the flight is fairly full sometimes the cabin crew will take you bag & put it in the lockers way way up the cabin.
This is a right pain if you want a quick exit.

There are 3 simple rules for Ryanair (and others) hand luggage:

    1) Make sure it does not exceed the maximum dimension in any direction,
    2) Make sure it does not exceed the maximum weight.
    3) You can only take ONE piece of hand luggage and that includes any/everything you might buy at the airport even a sandwich or bottle of water.

A rucksack is easier to stuff in the baggage frame - get one around 40l which will fit with space to spare and as you only have 10lg it's not going to be too heavy to carry
