Detailed Seller Ratings on ebay

Just been having a look at these, and it's only just occurred to me that my communications star is 4.9

Unless there is a question, I don't communicate at all. I do click the despatched thingy on my sold page, but that's it.

Maybe it really is the case that buyers just don't want to have emails sent to them and all they want is to buy and receive.

It's a complete lottery. Some see 3 as a great DSR and will happily buy from sellers dishing out 3's like they are doing you a favour. It would be nice to think that a buyer cannot give a DSR until he has had to sell an item, then they might understand.

i will send one to say been dispatched, occasionally i will send one if i can't post it the next day.
i hateee lots of emails. there is nothing worse then winnign an 'activia' auction and recieving near on 8 emails between "you are a bidder" and "please leave us some feadback". they ALWAYS get knocked down to 3 or 4 stars.

4.9 is a very good score for stars in any category so I would be happy with that across all my accounts. You really only need to worry if they drop to 4.6.

    Yep, same here.

It's the category that gets the least lows for us as well.

We'll answer questions promptly and all that, but as far as the actual fluff goes we don't bother. Paypal in theory sends out emails a day after we send the item, but it often doesn't get through.

It's not going to be a popular opinion as there are many sellers (particularly the "big" ones) who have decided that they need to communicate every single movement of your item, but I honestly think it is a waste of time and thought power.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I don't totally agree here. As a little communication could help you dispatch time DSR (not your communication). If i sell something on a Saturday (after the PO closes or a Bank Holiday. I always think its worth sending a dispatch notice when it goes off on the Monday. I think this helps perception of your dispatch time.

If you think of the frequent posts that we get from people waiting for items and we then point out they have not taken into account weekends. Its obvious peoples perception of time can get confused so poimting out when an item is dispatched has got to help.

I never send a dispatch notice if sending the following day but if there is a weekend in between It can't hurt. My Dispatch and Comms DSR go between 4.9 and 5 so somethings working.

I agree though to many can be annoying but personally I actually like to know the item has left so at least I can estimate its arrival.

I don;t think you can look at each DSR in isolation as one can easily effect another

Then I would certainly check your spam filters if messages were that delayed.

I sent out despatch emails this morning (I use a standard cut and paste) and two people have responded one to ask if I was selling more of the item, and the other to say thank you for letting them know item was on its way.

    I think you're all right!

It's certainly a lottery. I am 4.8 on all other stars, and I have to say I think my items are accurately described, I have never overcharged on postage, and I always send out same day if possible, next post office open day if I'm paid too late in the day (after 4-ish pm).

I guess my communication is actually my worst part of my business really, but still the higher stars...

eBay messaging is completely awry at the moment - I've been getting messages dating back to February in one case, and a lot of sellers on the ebay boards are discussing the automated emails around payment reminders etc.

I have my ebay automated to send a custom email/message when I mark an item as dispatched, and it will send it to both their email address as well as their ebay inbox. Besides an invoice if they don't pay instantly themselves, this is the only automated email I choose to send, however I am griped that ebay have now started sending out feedback reminders to my customers, and I can not opt out of that.

I also subscribe to the idea that "less is more" when it comes to making an online purchase. It annoys me when I get the full series of emails "congratulations You've won", "here is your invoice", "thanks for your payment", "item has been dispatched", "please leave us feedback", and if they are an Auctiva user, most of these emails are duplicated.

That's worth a 3 star in my book. Not low enough to affect their TRS eligibility, but low enough to affect their percentages.
