Surely there must be a more effective, yet still easy way of reporting spam other than clicking the spam button at the bottom of a thread?
How many people does it take to click the button before action is taken? And why oh why does the whole thread need to be involved? We have individual post buttons for everything else, why can't we have individual spam buttons too?
It gets to the stage where you think it's not worth bothering trying to help by reporting spam simply because it stays for ages afterwards if enough people haven't clicked the button. I don't use Outlook so it's a faff having to email abuse specifically.
There's definitely room for improvement here imo, will the software allow for changes?

Me too noticed this new pattern of spamming on threads inbetween posts, jo. There's very little we can do but report manually. And since they go round the board spamming, may be increase the time between posting or restrict number of posts for newbies?0

There is
Please report any spam, illegal, offensive, racist, libellous post to abuse@moneysavingexpert.com
There's even an abuse button at the bottom right of every post to make it easier for you."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

The abuse buttondoesn't work very well though. Doesn't work with googlemail, you need to dissect the line to break it down to the email address, subject and the content.

Perhaps that's something you need to take up with the powers at googlemail if their mail system doesn't work correctly using the usual mailto coding."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
A while ago we used to be able to click on the abuse button and it linked to the yahoo mail straightaway, with the yahoo email opening it for you - I don't think I was clever enough to have set it up myself but it did happen I distinctly remember. The button doesn't open emails anymore - I don't normally report spam anyway. There is someone who reports and also post after spam saying they have reported which continues to stay - actually I often feel tempted to report them0

The idea of sub-moderators was suggested some time ago. 'Normal' users who had the powers to remove blatant spam posts......0

Thanks for the reports, we've had some issues with our e-mail system over the weekend but that should be sorted this morning.

Yea I saw that after I posted
I think what needs doing about spam button is it can removed individual posts rather than a thread as some spammer now do this rather than start a new thread. If possible lower threshold for new posts under certain post count so spam can remove there posts and keep same for old posters assuming it is possible0 -
abuse button works for me with gmail when I click maybe is to do with extensions I have with firefox0
