  • It seems true checking the freesat website that you don't get five USA.

Maybe cheapest to get a freeview box although seems like a silly plan to me... Must be a better option.

If freesat don't have it then freeview is the cheapest option.

I'd be surprised if you can't get a digital freeview signal yet - most places have the digital signal and the analogue one, though the digital will be 'turned up' when the analogue gets turned off.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

You could watch it online. Demand Five has the mentalist listed here.
  • Or you could watch the channel (on a slight delay) on www, tvcatchup, com.

Replace commas with full stops in above link.

Do you have a DVD player, and is it available on DVD?

Failing that, install a VHS or DVD recorder at your parents and get them to record it for you.

Just because switch over is not til 2012 does not mean you can't get freeview, where do you live?
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • :j:j:jThank you sooooooo much.
Checked with aerial guy, we are amongst the last to get switched over, def no signal.

My parents live too far away and although they have a dvd recorder they have never used it and won't!

But, da da, tv catch up will work. Hubby says our unlimited download thingy from the post office won't let me indulge too much but hey - its' just for an hour a day.

Thank you thank you thank you....:j:beer::j:beer::j:money:
  • It is available through FreesatFromSky. You'd obviously need a dish, but any old Sky digibox would suffice to plug into it. The other thing is a FreesatFromSky card which is a one off payment of around £20.

As already mentioned, it's hard to believe that you have no Freeview signal at all. Seems doubtful that they'd turn off the analogue signal and turn on the digital one on the same day.

  • Thanks Phantom, seriously I am in Londonderry, our signal comes from Limavady and I am blocked out by a rather large mountain. Some houses on the other side of the city can get it but only with great big masts. I would need one about 5oo feet high.

You are spot on about FreesatFromSky, I had ruled out freesat since it didn't appear on the normal (bbc & itv) freesat list...I didn't know there was a difference.

My dad bought a sat system in Lidl a few years ago, never opened it. Told me to take it and I would have but our eldest boy said all I would get is german !!!!!!.(Yes, how the hell would he know!!!) But I wonder, if we put the dish up and got a sky digibox on freecycle/freegle would that work?

    Sorry for all the questions.:o
  • Don't know whether the Lidl dish would work, sorry.

Maybe phone around a few local installers and ask how much they'd charge for installing a new dish and cable?

Any old Sky digibox should do, whether it's from Freecycle or Ebay.
