We are hoping to go for a week to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary next month and I'd really appreciate advice from anyone who's been there.

From reviews I've read that it is very humid and there can be some rain...how much did that affect your holiday? Would anyone who has been there recommend a particular hotel? Is any part of the island better than another?

Is there a travel agent or website you'd recommend booking through, and finally, is there anything else we should be aware of?

Thanks for any advice.

    Hi,

Carribean Warehouse are really good but still worth checking their prices against a couple of other travel agents.

In Dom Rep both the Excellence Hotel and the Dreams Hotels seem to get consistently good reviews. Haven't been there but am looking to, not sure on the weather though maybe someone else can assist?

There are loads of reviews on hotels on TA.. hope you find something you like. Keep us posted!

I have stayed at Dream La Romana in 2008 for a week in June and weather was fab. I am going back in Feb next year and have booked Cayo Levantado.

I personally would recommend you stay either in Punta Cana, Samana or La Romana. White Sands, warm seas which aren't too choppy like you can get in the north.

    Hi

We had 2 weeks in Punta Cana a couple of years ago in one of the Barcelo Group hotels, (can't remember the name of it...doh!). Fabulous beaches!! It is very humid...air-con is a must. We had just one afternoon of monsoon-type rain which lasted about 2 hrs and then cleared up in minutes. Mozzies were a bit of a pain.

This is a useful website for info/forum on the Dominican Republic http://www.debbiesdominicantravel.com/

Hope you have a fabulous time....

We came back from the DR two weeks ago and had an amazing time. We were at the Dreams Palm Beach in the Punta Cana area (chose it due to being only 20mins from the airport). Temps were 30-32 during the day and 25ish at night, humidity is the first thing that hits you at the airport, different to the usual 'dry heat' but you get used to it. Beaches were superb, hotel was superb and we had literally a few spots of rain one evening and that was it !!!!!
I believe the Tropical storm/hurricane season is August/Sept in a similar way to Florida etc, the only potential problem for us was travelling 8hrs for a weeks holiday but in hindsight we needn't have worried because the wait was well worth it...... enjoy !!!! :D

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. :A

Having looked at lots of reviews we finally decided on the Iberostar Bavaro as it has great reviews on tripadvisor and was AI with firstchoice for £1400, which seemed like a really good price. Unfortunately between me dithering about the resort and trying to organise lastminute childcare etc, when we went to book it, we missed the deal by minutes and it's no longer available. :(

So we're looking at going a week later 7th July which is a little more expensive (£1520).

I really appreciate everyone's input and will post back to say what we've booked and how we find it when we get there.

Thanks again for all your help.

If you have not already booked, you could post the full details of the best price you have in the 'Beat My Quote' thread which appears at the top of this forum page and travel agents will probably look to see if they can better the price for you.

Hi neil, That resort does indeed look amazing and well worth bearing in mind for the future. Unfortunately at the moment it's out of our price range as we need to budget for going on holiday abroad with our children later this summer.

Thanks Incapuppy, I'd completely forgotten about that thread. :o I'm flying to see my daughter tomorrow morning but will try to post into the thread in the afternoon.

I don't know the hotel as I stayed in Playa Dardro, (excuse spelling), but stay in an Iberostar hotel in Tunisia, really good hotel group,

Your love it, if you get chance worth going to Ocean World, you can do dolphin swim, or encounter, the sea lion encounter, fab, it was good value, when I booked, I was given the time for the slots there and then, so could work day around it.

    xx
