    The Courier would give the person a "collection note" or whatever they call them...

    I never mentioned courier I said "buyer".

    Well the Courier I use have a collection note as I have been using them for 18 months, so I know the set up :)

    the seller is protecting themselves,whether you think its right or wrong is irrelevant

    So other than the seller being Psychic why did you assume they would accept a courier when you didn#t ask before the auction end. Most people want collection as they don't want the hassle of packing an item or waiting in for a courier. Otherwise they would chargr postage themselves.

    I don't blame the seller at all you were making too many assumptions. If you had been watching it all week you had plenty of time to contact them.

    Good on the seller for protecting themselves and sticking to their guns.

    Erm, I did ask them...
    Been watching an item all week with a low ish start price. It's quite bulky and was collection only. As it was a) high interest to me and b) 100 miles away, I asked the seller if I could send my own Courier.

    ...they replied within the last few minutes. I'd asked my Q 2 days before the item was ending...
