Orange Broadband

I wonder if someone may able to help. I was with orange broadband for years and just recently moved to O2. I followed Martin's guide to changing broadband provider. Everything worked ok except, orange are still taking money out of my account. O2 started their service on the 10th Jun, orange took money out of my account on the 18th Jun. I spoke to Orange and they told me that 30 days notice was required to cancel the contract, this is something that I wasnot told when I requested the MAC number. I asked them the question what was I getting for my money for the next month. Their response was nothing. Surely, this has to be agaist some sort of law. How can someone take money out of your account and not give you anything in return.
I don't really know aht to do. Any suggestions?

30 days is standard notice for most broadband/mobile contracts etc ??
O2 do the same

When you sign up to O2 Home Broadband, it's for a minimum of 12 months. We're not scared of commitment, and we think that's long enough for us to get to know each other properly. We know that sometimes things change, so if you want to cancel after the first year it won't cost you anything. All we ask is that you let us know in advance by giving us 30 days notice
checked , its on Oranges web site

Is there anything such as unfair contract terms? it just don't seem fair to me that a big company can take money from you and give you nothing in return.
I hope my small loss will benefits other forum users and make them stay away from orange broadband.0 -

30 days notice is pretty common place now. especially with telecommunications providers. of course you need to give them notice, otherwise i could say i was away on holiday for 3 weeks, i couldnt use the internet so you cant charge me. they're being paid for providing a service. providing there is nothing on their end (ie technical problems) that impede your access, then they are still providing that service to you and therefore payment is still due. you are responsible for your own equipment etc.You keep using that word. I would understand if they were providing me with a service. But they are not, O2 is providing with service since 10th Jun 2010. By taking money out of my account on the 18th, what service do they plan to offer for the next month. This is the bit that I have difficulty with.0

The bit you are missing is that you were required to provide them with 30 days notice. You didn't.
We must only be talking about a couple of quid at most anyway?0 -

Are you still in contract with orange? It would have been advised when you took the service how long the contract was for (typically 12 months but can be longer depending on deal being offered). You keep using that word. I would have thought the 30 day period applies too (i know it did when migrating from one telephone network to another years ago) but apparently, after a bit of digging on the internet.....they tell you NOT to cancel your existing supplier as your new supplier should do that for you?You keep using that word. My contract with orange ran out in March 2010, therefore, I was not tied into them. Although, we are talking about few quid, surely, if they take few quid from lot of us and don't give anything in return, it is stealing and unethical behaviour.0

is not stealing , its in their terms and conditions that its 30 days notice ???Ex forum ambassador

Unfair terms and conditions. I was told by Orange not to cancel my contract when I requested the MAC number from them because O2 will notify them and they will cancel my contract then.
If one person can tell me what I am receiving for my money for the next month, I will be happy to go quiet and let this issue rest.
Contract terms do not justify unacceptable behaviour.0
