Just bare in mind that Wickes kitchens are a better quality that Howdens. Which kitchens are you looking at from both? Let me know and I'll be able to explain the differences for you...

I disagree completely. I do a lot of kitchen installs and find the Howdens kitchens to be of far greater quality than Wickes. Wickes are completely overpriced for what they are. Plus with Howdens, everythinf is ex-stock so if something is missing or damaged you can get it changed over the couunter immmediately. I would install a Wickes Kitchen.

And for info fybar, Howdens are 18mm not 15mm carcasses as you indentify above.

Well, I was refering to the fascias, not the carcases...

The one at Howdens, the Greenwich Dark Walnut (which, to be honest, doesn't look dark or walnut) seems to be an 18mm MFC fascia. The Chicago from Wickes, is a 20mm foiled wrap MDF fascia. In terms of durability, a MDF door wins every time...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

With reference to the plinths/end panels, do they need to be bougtht from the same company that supplys the kitchen?

I am having a white gloss kitchen and wondered whether I can fit a plain white (cheaper) plinth from else where?

Yes, you could, but they might not be the same white...

Don't do it - get the complete kitchen from one retailer you trust.

I am planning to buy a kitchen on very limited budget. I have a Wickes next door to my house and visited them. They have one range of takeaway Kitchen called Houston:
    wickes.co.uk/Take-Away-Kitchen-Cabinets/Houston/icat/kithoustoninst
I am thinking of getting it, when I went there the designer advised against taking the takeaway ones saying that it doesn't last long as the carcass and back are made up of thinner material and would die out in two years.
Does anyone have experience on using this kitchen, I must admit that I don't have a lot to spend, having just bought the house and would have to struggle for some time, but the kitchen in flat is not furnished and I just can't make up my mind. Should I look for Ikea or similar cheaper ranges. Note that this kitchen at present is priced around £700 for 8 peices.

Hi esharah. Let me clarify something for you. The take-away and to-order kitchen carcases are made from exactly the same material. The reason the saleperson doesn't want you to buy a take-away one is simply because he doesn't make any money from it. I sold lots of take-away stuff in my time and even helped fit them for a couple of family members.

If he is saying that they'll only last 2 years, personally I'd be speaking to the Customer Service Manager there and explaining what he said to you, he'd probably be VERY interested to know what's going on...

I brought 2 x 50cm Miami Drawer Units but while building them I noticed that the top drawer over laps the top of the unit so if I were to put worktop on top the front would rest on the top of the drawer. I've tried adjusting the height of the draws but they don't adjust enough go below the top.

Had to dismantle them :( and I'm going to hopefully exchange them tomorrow as I believe the holes on the drawer fronts are in the wrong place, anyone else had this problem?
