The lock barrels on a Felicia are relatively easy to change DIY. Main barrier is the immobiliser. It definitely does have an immobiliser integrated into the key, without being coded the engine will start then cut out a short time after.
    Did you learn that 'inside'?!?

No you don't need to go to the dealer Any auto locksmith worth there salt can do there I do them day in day out. Yes it will need coding in. if you dont have the key code they will decode the lock either by stripping the lock or using a decoding tool find the shape of the key.

If you need more info PM me I will give you some phone numbers of locksmiths in your area.
Surely you cant just knock up an internal laser cut-out? And why go to effort of stripping the lock, uncoding the key to recode the whole system not even knowing that you'll be able to recode it?!? That's a bit like getting naked just to change your jumper, without having even bought another jumper yet!

An auto-locksmith will very unlikely help you out past trying to strip and/or code your system. If he gets stuck, or it doesnt work, you'll still have a bill to pay but a car that wont work. "I tried my best guv, but it wont work, sorry!"

A dealership will guarantee to match the key/barrell, and code it correctly to match the immobiliser within 1/2 an hour.

Pays your money, takes your chance

THERE IS NO NEED TO SEE A DEALER and if you do they will take at least a week to get the key to you, then you have to get the car to them, Recovery or tow!!! Can you now see the reason to use an auto locksmith??? we come to you and make keys on site and code them in there and then with our computer systems. make no mistake locksmiths have there own specialitys some safe guys some just do houses I happen to do cars. please dont tar us all thinking were rouges and shysters.

My intention was never to tar anyone as a rogue, but merely to suggest that there is only so much you can do at the roadside.

I am honestly shocked that you can a) get hold of chipped keys to match, b) be able to laser cut them, and c) be able to programme them too. The whole idea of these kind of procedures, put in place by manufacturers, is to make the security of the car a priority & not allow any old locksmith (no offence) to be able to just copy a key and code it there. What's to stop a less scrupulous guy just doing exactly that but while the owner is away on holiday, for example?

When we order a key, and code it, there is no part of the procedure that allows the user/tech, or even owner to know the codes that the key is being programmed with or key cut to, because of this very reason. Surely it can't be entirely legal? (Genuine question?)

yes we have the way to get the codes from the vehicle we strip the lock to calculate the key code and we extract the pin's form the car's ECU/Immo box I can even virginise ECU's for fiats and Saabs (even the dealer can't do that) so they replace in a lost keys situ.
Yes its perfectly legal for anyone to own and buy the equipment. and for doing it for theft! well my set up cost in the region of £40k and counting so buying the car would be cheaper :D

P.s Lazer cut keys don't actually use a lazer to cut them the technical name fpr that type of key is Inner track.

They keys are about £140 or about £75 for a standard (non remote) then whatever they charge for labour. But no more than £200 all in for a remote. I charge less but thats a ball park figure.
