Lanzarote - eating out costs etc.??

Hi
have (almost) decided to go to Costa Teguise end of Aug - Sept but read somewhere eating out typical 3 course meal no wine = £28 - this seems a bit expensive to me when it says same for Tenerife = £15.
So could anyone tell me please what costs are like eating out in decent restaurants? i.e. not english-type food all the way, ones with local and varied menus. And also drinks costs?

Also Santa Rosa Apts are the ones we are considering - anyone any thoughts please.

Is Lanzarote really as windy as I've seen people say? Surely a bit of wind is nice for sunbathing, sightseeing etc.?

Thanks

Its not as windy as people say I didnt think so anyhow

Santa Rosa Apartments are nice in costa teguise I have had customers to that hotel on numerous occasions, it depends where you eat to be honest to what you pay

Thanks Del, I appreciate that . Is there 'enough' to do sightseeing, culture-wise for 2 weeks in Lanzarote. We'd probably hire a car at some stage and also wouldn't want to be doing something EVERYDAY.
    thanks

Erm I wouldnt say there was stacks to do, you can visit the volcano things or hot springs what ever you call them, there aint as much to do as say the likes of Tenerife but its a nice island im sure you wouldnt be too bored, you could drive down to the ferry port and hop overto FUE for the day too

    Hi

I went to Lanzarote in 2007 for 2 weeks. A nice 3 course meal and bottle of wine was around £25 (it may have gone up by now, and the exchange rate is poor now too)

We hired a car for 5 days of the trip and went adventuring. Great fun. Drove along some really dodgy knife-edge roads in the north of the island.

Booked a few trips at the start of the holiday but soon found that you could do all the trips alot cheaper yourself using public transport or hire car.

It was very windy when we went (july) but it means you can sit out in the sun without boiling. Just remember to keep putting your suncream on because you dont realise you're burning when its windy. My OH got serious burns to his legs and we had to cancel everything we had planned in the first 4 days of the trip and stick to sitting by the pool.

    Have a great time.

thanks sammy - yeah i know the euro is poor, but not as bad as a while ago, thankfully.
i suppose like del says too it depends where u go, if u want something special then that will be available, but fast n tasty will be an option too. was worried in case that was the general price for food.
we'll be going self catering anyhow, but i found that when we were in cyprus the groceries were not cheap enough to warrant cooking and not eating out IYKWIM.
presuming there will be the 'menu del dia' type things anyhow?
  • Me and my husband went to Lanzarote in May 08 and had a really good holiday but did find food costs quite high and it was cheaper to eat out than pay for groceries. We hired a car for the full week we were there and visited lots of places including the volcano and ate steak cooked on the heat from the volcano - the trip prices were really high and much cheaper to rent a car and pay for fuel.

The Santa Rosa apartment complex is very nice, I stayed there last year. I was on the Holiday Property Bond side of the complex, the apartments there are lovely - the 'normal' ones are supposed to be slightly less nicely furnished, but since they were built at the same time, I'm sure they're perfectly decent. And the whole complex has a nice feel to it, staff are helpful, pool is nice and not too crowded.

It's about 10 minutes walk down to the beach, and there are numerous restaurants around, for varying budgets. The best restaurant we went to was a little pricey, named El Navarro, but it was very good value for money for what it was - the same food in the UK would cost much more. And the fish around there is always very good.

We were only there a week and didn't go on trips or hire a car, as we were more in the mood for a relaxing beach/pool holiday, but it does seem like there's plenty to do there for a week, say, and then a week by the pool.

i have been 3 times to a differnt resort each time costa teguise was the windiest but saying that it was may-june i was there on the other occasions Puerto del carmen and playa blanca it was quite calm as far as the wind goes you have got to remember but august-september are the hottest months and you would probably enjoy the breeze as it can be relief when its so hot i am going this year again the first time since 2006 but we only have flights so far but we will probably opt for playa blanca. costa tegusie has a lovely wee
called something like jabillo its not the main beach there but the sand golden and the sea is great for a dip i really enjoyed it it was our first time to lanzarote and as i have said it will be four soon so
costa teguise must have gave good impression :j

thanks everyone so far. I'm now also considering Puerto del Carmen - any thoughts or preferences between the two resorts?

La Penita apts. seem to get brill reviews so considering there - about £100 difference between santa rosa in CT and La penita in PDC.
    Thanks
  • Hi,

    I know this thread is a couple of months old, but thought I'd add some information for you (and anyone else) that may come across it;

For a "Travel Agent" I have to say "delwynsholidaydeals" doesn't exactly give a great account of the resort/island.

Costa Teguise is indeed windy on a typical day, not enough to blow your head off during the day, but there is always a lovely breeze that is wonderful when you're sunbathing. It is even heavier along the seafront, and hence why it is a very popular location for windsurfers.

I have just stayed at Santa Rosa apartments, they are very well maintained, and not too busy around the pool (always got a sun bed). Do note thought that it is a good 15 minute walk to the main part of Costa Teguise (Ave de Jablillo).

I would strongly recommend the restaurants Villa de Toledo which is situated on the coastal path between Playa Bastian and the main town, and also El Patio which is in a square off the main road.

    In terms of what there is to do, well there is plenty to fill a few days of your holiday (or spread out across more days), my strong recommendations are;

    - The volanoes (Montanas del fuego, Timanfaya National Park)
    - Jameos del Agua (A masterpiece of Cesar Manrique)
    - Cueves de los verdes (Caves, home of the Lanzarote Secret)
    - Fundacion Cesar Manrique (The home of Cesar Manrique now a museum of his work, and other artists), be sure to check out the Monumento el Campesino just down the road too, though the sculpture looks best at night
    - Bodega El Grifo (Wine museum - buy your El Grifo wine from here, it has special reserves not available in supermarkets, check out the vineyards and how they grow the grape - truly amazing considering the volcanic "soil")
    - Teguise Market (A bit touristy, but you get to see the pretty town of Teguise and its a good morning out on a Sunday)

It's also worth driving up to the viewpoint at Mirador del rio if visiting the caves / jameos del agua.

    Hope this helps anyone reading.
