There's a group of you going ? Suppose you could TALK to each other instead , IPODs book sleep . Most airline inflight entertainment isn't very good anyway especally on a short haul flight. Sorry I'm another one who doesn't really see why it's such a problemI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Hi
We had the same letter, we were expecting no inflight entertainment too - so we bought a portable DVD player for the little un (nearly 2, and sat on my kneee so needed something) - lo and behold, there was entertainment - in the form of a film on a tv we couldn't see!! I asked the cabin crew who said it is on the smaller aircraft - we were on a 767 so she said there is always something on.
Maybe you should check the plane you will be in (normally stated in the back of the brochure with flight times/supplements etc) and you can judge from there - if it is a bigger plane then there is entertainment.
Hope this helps. (We came back from Turkey on monday, loved it but would never use Thomas Cook again, don't book it, don't Thomas Cook it!!!!)
But don't old your breath for being able to see the tv, or in fact expect the headphones to work, the connection was shocking!0 -
To be fair to Thomas Cook, they've written to everyone (or at least you, I and the other thread repliers) to give them advance warning that the In-Flight-Entertainment won't be available. This gives us a chance to make sure we've put a book in our hand luggage or sorted out another option if preferred.
As for the actual withdrawal, its purely about saving money. Anything that gets built into an airoplane costs an absolute fortune to buy, test and maintain. A startup company raised their head a while back offering to set PSPs up for airlines (presumeably they rip out the wi-fi circuitry, as boeing and airbus are unlikely to be too thrilled about wi-fi being enabled). In theory, this should be more reliable (a single broken PSP can be replaced much more easily than IFE can be fixed, lighter (which means fuel savings of potentially thousands per plane per year), and probably even more fun.
Some airlines are looking to dole them out to passengers for free, but Thomas Cook are chancing their hand at making some extra cash out of it, which is a shame given that using them instead of IFE in the first place is already going to save them a small fortune. So, the only annoyance I have with them is over the £7.50 per flight charge...
If you are really upset, then you could always write to Thomas Cook and ask them to give you a voucher for a PSP rental instead of the drink, to my eye that would be a fairer swap...0
