virgin wireless router ..

i'll probably ask this in the technical forum as well as i think it counts in both :)

rejoined virgin from sky recently, and had the installation yesterday.

the engineer gave me the wireless router before he left as I said I was happy to set it up myself. later on, when i decided to do it I realised that it was actually seperate to the cable modem so would require an additional power point, in addition to the cable modem.

so it's highly unlikely i'll ever use it.

now i know the cable modem and V+ box are still virgin's property and should be returned at the end of the contract, but is it the same with the wireless router ?

it's not a branded virgin product - it's a netgear n300.

i'm happy to return it to them if need be, but if i'm allowed to sell it on then obviously i'd be happier to do that instead ..

As far as I'm aware,it has to be returned.

As Spike says, the router (along with the modem and V+ box) is the property of VM and will have to be returned should you decide to end the service.

Wireless routers are normally seperate from the cable modem ... not sure what you expected?!

I guess i was expecting something like the Sky ADSL router, which is the modem and wireless router all in one.

    Random ebay example ..

I assume you are on L or XL pakage, or the wireless router isn't free.

    I'm on XL.

This is the router I got, in addition to the cable modem ..

(That's not me listing it on ebay BTW :))

I did ring Virgin earlier as i'd forgotten the default PIN number to unlock parental control on the box and I asked them about the router and she did say it was seperate to the package and was a "free" add-on.

Not cost affective for VM to do this due to the way's it can be installed. Not only that but some franchises use the Cable TV box to run the Broadband & dont use a SACM (What you have) so they require a W/Router.More cost effective to have one product you can use on buth set ups than two seperate products.

I have left Virgin twice (once cable and once Virgin adsl) and was outside the 12 month contracts on both occasions. Both times they didn't ask for the router back (I'm using the adsl one with a new provider and the old one was given to a mate on VM cable as a backup). They even told me to bin the cable modem, but they did collect the Samsung set top box.

SACM's are so cheap they're not worth recovering.
