if you have wooden fencing try putting some trelis on the top , or planting thorny shrubs etc around possible entry points , keep any side gates etc locked , and for garage windows you can either screw them so that they don't open or put safety film on them so that they won't shatter if smashed . at the end of the day if someone wants to break in they will , but if you make it hard for them hopefully they will go elsewhere

He just asked some questions about what happened, and my financial situation,
What on earth has it got to do with him what your financial situation is?I would have told him it's non of his business.

    Hello Penelope Penguin

I'm sorry you've been burgled and I hope you get your items replaced soon.

Have you considered installing a house alarm and garage/outhouse alarm system? We have both. Have you got security lights? We have security lights which light up the drive and garden...............and the system also 'beeps' so that during daylight hours (when the lights don't normally come on;)) we still know if anyone is on our property.

On the day we moved into our house, I got a locksmith to visit and check our patio door and front/back doors to see what more we needed to beef up our security.

Unless I'm actually in the room at the time, I keep all windows and doors locked. I don't have a gold bullion store:D but I keep my home secure like Fort Knox.

I hope you can improve your security, so that the toerags don't return to remove the items you've replaced with the insurance.;)

This is a brilliant post Nile & full of tips - how about considering a thread on this board, where we can share security tips to make our homes/garages/sheds safer?

An Insurer or their Loss Adjuster will sometimes check to see if you have County Court Judgements.

In some cases of suspected fraud they will also check databases such as Experian and Equifax etc.

Thank you to everyone who's replied - you helped to put my mind at rest :A

The loss adjuster came out yesterday and was lovley :) He explained everything really well, took details from us, and told us that his company has authority to approve or deny claims (he doesn't have to go back to the insurers to get their permission to pay). He approved everything, and we'll be sent a list of items that we can have to replace the ones stolen. If we want to upgrade or make changes (for instance DS has grown and really needs a larger bike) we can, and can add money if necessary.

    Happy bunny :D
