Good morning everyone! Wasn't sure if here or Insurance Board was best.
In the early hours of Friday morning, some thieving toerags broke into our brick outbuildings and garage
They stole 4 bikes, petrol lawnmower, petrol hedge trimmer, and DH's pride and joy petrol chainsaw, plus a few miscellaneous bits
We're all so grateful that they didn;t try to get into the house.
I contacted the police at the time, and the insurance company once the office opened. They're having a loss adjuster call me on Monday.
DH is taking a good look at the security outside and in.
Is there anything else we should be doing? Any tips on being prepared to speak to the loss adjuster - we've never made a claim on B&C policy before, so no idea what to expect
TIA :A

Sorry to hear this, I was burgled two weeks ago so I know how you feel.
Just tell the loss adjuster exactly what happened and I'm sure it will be fine.0 -
Sad news :-( My Mum's house was burgled a few months ago. She found providing valuations for some pieces was tricky. Might be worth digging out your receipts/photographs/valuations etc Anything that shows what the items were.
Hope it goes smoothly on Monday.0 -
were any of the items security marked?
our police did a free coding on bikes a few years ago, not sure it helped tbh as its not a micro chip is it!
list everything stolen with an approx bought date and value. Is it a replace at value or todays prices?0 -
I was burgled a few years ago. The loss adjuster was no real problem. He just asked some questions about what happened, and my financial situation, wrote down the answers and the cheques started arriving a week later. Mind you, he came so late that the police had already caught and locked up the burglar (he was already on parole, so straight back inside).
Sorry it's happened to you, Penny. It's a shock-but once you've got over the initial fright then at least it was outside and it's all replaceable stuff. We only lost electronics-nothing with any emotional value. We were very lucky, really.import this0 -

Hello Penelope Penguin
I'm sorry you've been burgled and I hope you get your items replaced soon.
Have you considered installing a house alarm and garage/outhouse alarm system? We have both. Have you got security lights? We have security lights which light up the drive and garden...............and the system also 'beeps' so that during daylight hours (when the lights don't normally come on;)) we still know if anyone is on our property.
On the day we moved into our house, I got a locksmith to visit and check our patio door and front/back doors to see what more we needed to beef up our security.
Unless I'm actually in the room at the time, I keep all windows and doors locked. I don't have a gold bullion store:D but I keep my home secure like Fort Knox.
I hope you can improve your security, so that the toerags don't return to remove the items you've replaced with the insurance.;)10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. Nile is right.
I had my bike stolen from my Garage on Boxing Day. they got in through next doors gate, jumped over my fence and smashed a small window in the access door.
I got a new bike through the insurance and fixed the garage only to have the new biked stolen a month ago bythe same route of entry. Most likely to be the same little sh*ts and msost likely someone I pass in the street.
I've now screwed my neighbours gate shut, added extra locks to my garage, blocked the glass up with solid timber and installed an alarm.
So you will need to increase the security as the thieves now know how easy it is to get in to your garage.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -

There's a tiny wee camera you can get via the internet which you can mount somewhere obscure inside a building but train it on possible point of access.
Then if they come back you will see who it is and so can the police.
Rotten luck but at least no-one was hurt.0
