Pregnant, and lost appitite, any suggestions?

Am posting under a new name as we've not yet told anyone.

Found out this morning that I'm pregnant (which explains a lot!). For the past week I've been feeling hungry, but not really been able to eat much. It all tastes cardboard-like and to be honest I really don't fancy that much. I've even gone off cheese at the moment. For breakfast this morning I had beans and chips (yummy), I managed pasta last night, and toast with honey this afternoon. Other than that I've been struggling, even with my usual favourites.

If anyone can suggest anything for a hungry, preganant, vegetarian to eat I'd really appreciate it.

    Congratulations :)

I've been living off toast and soup for the past week. I would say just eat what you like for now, even if it is beans, chips and toast all the time. I'm sure your appetite will come back for other foods soon.

Thanks Gizmodo. I've a feeling that's going to be what I do for a while. Hopefully no-one at work will notice my change in appitite and comment on it as I'm hoping to keep quiet about it for as long as possible.

I work outside quite a bit, so I'll need to find something new for my packed lunches, as I really can't face cheese sandwiches at the moment......oooo, marmite on cold toast, now that sounds good.

That's what I've been having is marmite on toast - not sure I could stomach it cold though!

I'm lucky as we have a toaster and microwave at work. I also work with mostly men and they haven't seemed to have noticed that I've gone from eating no bread the last 12 months to eating 8 slices of toast a day!

Do you like supernoodles? I had some of those last night - I know they aren't healthy but they worked for me.

I really want to get back into eating salads and fruit, I hope all this bread doesn't make it hard later to cut down again.

    Eat what you do fancy!!!

Regardless of whether that is crisps or cake or toast or fruit.

It makes no odds to the baby and in a few weeks you might well be chucking it all up anyway..
my vegetarian friend scarfed mcd's burgers for the first 2 months as they were the only thing she could face eating. even I find that gross!

trouble is, there's just about nothing that I fancy eating. Meat even less than usual.
At the moment I figure that it's better for me to eat something rather than nothing, just having trouble finding what the 'something' is. Hopefully this'll pass soon.

Gizmodo - alas, people will notice and ask, which is what I don't want until everything's well down the line. When I'm outside, we have a kettle, and that's about it (sometimes not even that if it's a one day visit). Which reminds me, I get my own risk assessments on visits now. Extra paperwork, what fun. I'll certainly be making use of the toaster in the office though, thanks for the idea. :)

    congratulations!

I was similar at first. I lived on toast mainly with butter and jam and alpen...and I used to not touch bread cos it made me bloated. Also went completely off tea. no one at work really noticed, closest colleague (single bloke with no kids) did think it was funny I never wanted a cuppa anymore but when I told him at 13 weeks he was completely shocked so had really not thought about it! Maybe if I worked with all women it may've been different.

I have still not got a great appetite...well I can eat loads more now and am hungry but I rarely actually enjoy eating it (i.e. the flavour) or really fancy something. Mcfulrrys are my new thing!

Just eat what you can stomach!

My kids dad always knew i was pregnant before I realised. I started eating marmite out of the jar, beetroot and cottage cheese and tins of peppered mackerel fillets. I HATE these foods normally. I agree eat what you fancy, little and often but do make sure that you are aware of the guidance regarding safe eating in pregnancy

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I was sick, sick, sick for the first 4 months. The last 5 I was so random in what I could eat. My poor boyfriend was so patient!!
In the first 4 months I could barely stomach anything. I was able to eat plain rice, Ubley Yoghurts (full fat and creamy), sprite, and white bread (not toasted). That's it. And only first thing in the morning or lunch time. Any other time and I would ... oh god, what an awful time. The last five months I lived on beef, strawberries, blueberries, yoghurt, and white bread.
Oh - try popsicles! I think I had a box a week for awhile there. I got the all natural fruit ones. mmm...
It gets better, honestly. Don't push yourself and as your pregnancy goes on you won't be able to eat more than a small bowl without feeling painfully full. Little and often. Have you tried bovril?
It gets better, honestly. And it's all worth it!!!

I felt dreadful when I was first pregnant with my son - I used to keep a bowl of fruit in the kitchen and everytime I went past, would make myself eat something. Get the kiddie sized apples, bananas and other small fruit.

I did find that eating somthing small helped me feel better and I could occasionally manage something more substantial afterwards.

congratulations!!! hope everything goes well for you!!!
all I can suggest is that you have a wander (slowly) around your local supermarket, greengrocers, farm shop and see what foods you DO fancy!
