Beware the incompetance of some of the Tesco Bank CSAs!

In the absence of any warnings whatsoever on my recent Tesco Clubcard CC statements as to the expiry of my 12months 0% purchases promotion, I called to confirm the date the balance would have to be cleared by.

The first CSA I spoke to swore blind that the end date was 27th Sept, my 12th statement date, despite this being 13 months after the account was activated on 27/8/09. I confirmed his name and extensions, then called again 10 minutes later after digging out all the application paperwork. This paperwork stated the end date was 12months after account opening (not activation).

Fortunately the 2nd CSA was more switched on, and was able to confirm the expiry date was 21st August, (ie nearly a week before the card's activation anniversary). I asked her supervisor to investigate why the other CSA was giving out incorrect information, and she said she would.

So the moral of the story: don't rely on just one CSA rep, and get both their names and extensions.

On my paper statements, my Expiry Date against the Purchases Balance promotion is blank as reported above by Penelopa.Pitstop, and the online banking doesn't allow me to download paper statements. Maybe this is only enabled if you go for paperless bills? Either way, there seems to be inconsistancy in the way that the ending of promotions are notified on statements. fozmcfc reports their statement gave them 2 full months warning of the expiry of the promotion, whereas I'm now 5 weeks away from the expiry and there's been nothing on my statements.

You should find the information on your paper statement, 2 months before it is due to end, so it should be on your June statement, if your 0% ends in August.

As I said it is on the first page, not the bit on the 2nd page where several of us thought it should be.

On the first page, on the left hand side under IMPORTANT INFORMATION it says.
    IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Please note that your introductory purchase
rate will expire (your expiry date), the standard
monthly variable rate will apply after that date

Please truthfully answer, whether you find it or not. No one is going to think you stupid if you have overlooked it, as several posters have already indicated they did. But it will serve as a warning to others, if it isn't on one of either your May/June/July statements

I trust most would do this anyway but double and triple check any direct debits are properly set up.

Tesco mucked up mine 3 months on the bounce but repaid me the fees involved.

    It was frustrating however.

I'm still getting paper statements and I can download statements. But in IE it takes ages and instead of opening them, I'm saving them to disk.
  • I've got latest statement and it still shows 0% for purchases. I will do some purchases next month and see if it goes to normal rate or shows information about interest due in next billing period.

I can only assume that sly_dog found it on their statement thus no reply, would have been nice though.

My next statement is produced on 10th August, the day my 0% runs out. I've a £0 balance now, but will check to see what indication is shown to say the 0% is finished etc..
