  • Ahhhh now I'm getting some good responses on my facebook - pleased that at least some of them find home cooking better, tastier and healthier!

I made my first lasagne the other day - geeez it was fantastic!

We banned bxes 2 or 3 years ago.
So now about the only thing in a box we'll have occasionally is Brain's faggots or a bit of battered haddock.

Tonight though, while I'm home alone, I wish I had a ready meal of some sort as cooking for one is a very lonely thing.

  • I seem to be the only one of my friends who cooks almost everything from scratch. The only processed food I buy is the occasional pizza from the Asda pizza counter as a treat. My friends are all the same age as me (28). One of my friends chopped her first onion last week   :rotfl:.

  • I said "making dinner hun". The he looks at the uncooked rice and says "what's that?". I answer "Rice"... he looks confused and says... "but rice comes ready cooked and you just stick it in the microwave"
Oh bless your DS :D I love children make innocently funny comments.

I cook from scratch but I have bought ready-meals and ready sauces in the past but rarely do now. I find it cheaper, tastier and healthier (no added chemicals for the convenience of food manufacturer) to cook for myself. But I can understand if someone is a working and they have no time to cook or do anything else..... it's convenient but spend fortune.

  • Several men I went to school with when they were boys have commented on my status now - each one, I'm proud to say, cook from scratch! Their mothers taught them well!

I was surprised recently when someone I know said that a certain supermarket lasagne was much better than anything "anyone" could make themselves.

Supermarket meals like lasagne, with pasta and creamy sauces, are always so disgusting! Piles of floury sauce yuck!
Living cheap in central London :rotfl:
  • I agree with you... I have one friend who cooks well... but another... it's all jars and packets (which means it's semi-from scratch)!

But My sons dad and his mother... cook him pizza and chips when he is with them! YUK!!! you know... cheapie pizza, thrown in the oven!

My son says I am the best cooker he knows!

What better compliment can you get???

Ps. I am the only one of my friends who makes pizza dough, bread, lasange, sauces, spag bol... without the help of Jars and packets!!!

Me and DH have only just started cooking our own meals from scratch. My mum made most things fresh when I lived at home but I just couldn't seem to do the same. That said, we are giving it a try ourselves and are so far loving it. Not only does the food taste a million times better but we feel healthier in ourselves. We've only been doing this for the last week and a bit but I really hope we can keep it up :)
