Halifax their criteria for bank account

I'm thinking I may change my bank account, been with Yorkshire Bank over 4 year's with a Readycash Account. It comes with a Maestro card, but it isn't exactly a local branch. So thought of Halifax,plenty of branches, one close. Was wondering if they are strick with their criteria? I'm not on loads of money, no bad public…

I was told I was successful in getting my account after I'd applied but then when I logged on they told me I'd been unsuccessful!

Arggg too many credit searches on my file right now!
